Star Wars film with Daisy Ridley’s Rey delayed as Steven Knight exits
Big news in the galaxy! The upcoming Star Wars movie featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey just lost its screenwriter…again! Yep, screenwriter Steven Knight, who joined to replace Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, has now exited the project. That makes it three writers gone in what feels like The Rise of Skywriter Problems.
So, what’s next for Rey’s return to the big screen? Lucasfilm is on the hunt for a new writer as we speak. But, this hiccup likely means production won’t begin until at least 2025…which means we’ll be waiting even longer to see Rey’s new Jedi Academy.
But don’t worry, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still set to direct her first feature film, bringing her award-winning documentary chops to the Force. Lucasfilm also has a packed schedule with upcoming projects from Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and James Mangold, so while Rey’s story is delayed, the Star Wars universe will be anything but quiet.
