I Stayed Overnight on Japan’s Most Famous Cat Island with 200 Cats 🐈 Tashiro Island (Tashirojima)
Tashirojima (Tashiro Island), a small island in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is one of Japan’s most famous cat islands, visited by cat lovers from all over the world. More than 200 cats live on this little island, and dozens of them gather at feeding time at Shima-no-eki. This time, I stayed on Tashirojima for three days and two nights, slowly exploring the charm of the cat island — from the cats in the daytime to the evening cat gathering, and even the delicious local food.

🐱I visited Japan’s most famous cat island 🐈🐈 Miyagi Tashiro Island (Tashirojima)
This was my second visit to Tashirojima (Tashiro Island). This time, I stayed for three days and two nights, which gave me more time to spend with the cats than on my previous visit. About 40 minutes by ferry from Ishinomaki, this small island in Ishinomaki City is home to many cats who live freely and are dearly cared for by the island residents.
On the first day, I arrived at stormy Nitoda Port. On the second day, I finally visited Odomari Port, which I couldn’t make it to last time, and enjoyed the food I had been looking forward to at Hamaya.
At Tashiro Shokudo, I spent a peaceful time with the adorable cats and had a delicious meal.
I also visited the Cat Shrine, which is closely connected to the cats of the island.
At Shima-no-eki, I was overwhelmed by the sight of dozens of cats gathering for their regular feeding time.
And in the evening, after the day-trip visitors had left, Tashirojima began to show a quieter side, completely different from the daytime. I was also able to see the cat gathering I had heard so much about. 😻

I think my favourite cat is definitely the calico cat who got that big fish from the fisherman and also the cat who actually looks like batman because the top half of his face was black and white at the bottom. That cat should be named the bat cat! 😻😹 Those 2 cats that sat in your lap was just heart melting 🥰 I’m sure you felt like you were in cat heaven? 😉 All the food they served on the island looked really fresh and delicious 😋
The locals of the island really have done a great job in looking after the cats and catering for tourists too 🤩🙌 I loved watching the cats chasing each other and running up the poles like they were training for the cat olympics 😹😹 the cats were cute when gathering together in the evening like they were having a secret cat business meeting 🤭🤭

Quel plaisir de revoir l’île aux chats. C’est un endroit que je considère comme l’un de mes petits paradis, vivre au milieu de personnes âgées pleines de sagesse, capables de nous transmettre de vraies leçons de vie, tout en étant entouré de chats, dans un lieu paisible entre mer et nature.
Il n’y a rien de mieux pour nourrir la créativité, les ronronnements, le bruit des vagues, les petits miaulements un peu partout… Tout donne envie de ralentir, d’observer et de sourire.
