神が宿る島と宝永の記憶｜和歌山みなべ鹿島の夕景【Japan 1 Minute Travel】Sunset over Kashima, Sacred Island of Minabe

ここは和歌山県みなべ町。
沖合に静かに浮かぶ無人島・鹿島を望む場所です。
港からほど近いこの小さな島は、古くから“神の宿る島”として人々に敬われてきました。
宝永4年（1707年）の東南海地震の際には、大津波から村を守ったとも伝えられています。
この年、日本では大きな出来事が続きました。
東南海地震の49日後、富士山が大噴火――宝永噴火。
大地の揺らぎと火の噴出が同じ年に起こった事実は、自然のつながりを感じさせます。
この日、鹿島のはるか向こうへ、ゆっくりと夕日が沈んでいきました。
変わらぬ風景の中に、長い時間の記憶が重なっていくようでした。
撮影したのは晩夏の夕暮れ。
気温は30℃近く、汗が止まらないほどの暑さでした。
そんな中で出会ったのが、みなべ町名産の梅エキス。
煮詰めた真っ黒なエキスは、強烈な酸味とともに体に沁み渡り、
まるで力を吹き込まれるような感覚でした。
神が宿るとされる島を前に、
ただ静かに、穏やかな日々が続くことを願うばかりです。

Here is Minabe Town in Wakayama, where a small uninhabited island called Kashima quietly floats offshore.
This island, located just off the harbor, has long been revered as a sacred place where gods reside.
It is said that during the Hoei Earthquake of 1707, Kashima helped protect the surrounding villages from a devastating tsunami.
That same year, Japan experienced two major natural events.
Just 49 days after the earthquake, Mt. Fuji erupted in what is now known as the Hoei eruption.
The coincidence of a massive earthquake and a volcanic eruption within the same year reminds us of the hidden connections within the Earth.
On this day, the sun slowly set beyond Kashima, sinking into the distant horizon.
It felt as though layers of time and memory were quietly overlapping within this unchanging landscape.
Filmed in the late summer evening, the temperature was close to 30°C, and the heat was intense.
In Minabe, known as the home of ume (Japanese plums), I came across a traditional ume extract.
This thick, dark syrup—intensely sour and rich in citric acid—felt like a natural source of energy, reviving my body in the heat.
As I gazed at Kashima, a sacred island shaped by history and belief,
I found myself quietly wishing for peace—hoping that no disasters would come.
