Kanazawa Dezomeshiki（New Year’s Ceremony） – Kaga Tobi (firefighters) Ladder Climbing and Simultaneous Water Discharge
This is an annual New Year’s event in Kanazawa, held at Kanazawa Castle Shinmaru Square. The “Kaga Tobi,” or feudal lord firefighters, protected the Kaga Clan’s residence in Edo. Their valiant and daring activities and magnificent equipment are truly synonymous with the Daimyo Firefighters!
The powerful ladder-climbing performance by the approximately 1,300 members of the Kanazawa City Fire Brigade, who carry on a 300-year tradition, is a must-see.
