We Visited One of Japan’s Top 3 Onsen – Gero Onsen! | Exploring Gifu Prefecture Pt. 2
Join us as we continue our journey through Gifu and explore the charming hot spring town of Gero Onsen!
Recognized as one of the “Three Great Hot Springs of Japan” based on writings dating back to the 1500s, Gero Onsen certainly didn’t disappoint. This designation – referring to the onsen of Gero, Arima, and Kusatsu – dates back to the 1500s in the writings of Zen monk and poet, Banri Shukyu, and later by the prominent 17th century scholar, Hayashi Razan. These three hot springs were praised for their historical and cultural value, as well as for the quality of the water and their healing properties.
Gero Onsen is known for its high quality, alkaline waters, which leaves your skin feeling silky smooth after bathing. Hence, it is nicknamed the “water of beauties.”
In addition to the relaxing onsen, there is a lot to do around town. Some come along as we walk, eat, and SLIDE, our way through Gero Onsen!
