Tashiro, Abandoned Village, Ikeda Fukui Japan | June 2025 [4K Binaural]

This video documents a walking visit to Tashiro (田代), an abandoned hamlet in Ikeda Town, Fukui Prefecture, filmed in 4K with binaural audio. Tashiro is located in the uppermost headwaters area of the Asuwa River. Today only traces such as former house sites and roadside stone figures remain.
Tashiro was established during the Edo period. The population once exceeded 100 people at its peak. Education was provided through the Tashiro Branch of Ikeda First Elementary School: a winter temporary classroom opened in 1911, which later became the branch school, and it closed in 1962. The village became uninhabited in 1971. After depopulation, a campsite as part of the “Kanzan Youth Travel Village” facilities operated here for a time but has since closed.

  1. Marvellous! I wonder what those yellow tapes on the trees are for? Here in the UK if a tree has a marker of a similar kind it's not good news and it's likely to feel an axe biting into its trunk before too long.
Thank you for another great video.
