五日市街道を、なるべく旧道ルートで武蔵五日市駅を目指す古道探訪動画です。五日市街道は距離が長いため前後編で分けて配信します。この前編では、高円寺梅里(旧馬橋村)の新高円寺駅2番出口から立川市西砂町の横田基地で遮断される箇所まで走行します。

⚫️五日市街道について
杉並区梅里の青梅街道の五日市街道入口交差点から、あきる野市舘谷の秋川街道の武蔵五日市駅前交差点までの延長42kmの都道です。江戸時代には、檜原や奥多摩で盛んだった炭やまきが、五日市の問屋を介して江戸に運ばれていました。そのため黒街道とも呼称されていたようです。また小金井公園付近の玉川上水べりは、桜の名所で花見客で賑わっていたようです。
