ATAGAWAWe got off at Atagawa Station in Higashiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Atagawa, where the atmosphere of the Showa era still lives on, has many attractions and is an exciting hot spring area where just walking is a thrill. The hot spring town that stretches along the sea has a nostalgic atmosphere. As we started walking, we were greeted by the rising steam of the hot springs . A short walk from the station is a power spot that enshrines Benzaiten, a shrine that is said to bring good fortune in money and love. This place is one of Atagawa’s unique attractions. We enjoyed the walk and headed to our lodging. This time, we were staying at the Izu Atagawa Onsen Hotel Katara RESORT & Spa, a resort located on a hill overlooking the sea. All rooms at the spa have ocean views, and the hotel offers an all-inclusive experience inside an amusement park-like facility. The facility opens at 12:00 and serves snacks from 12:30, so I arrived early today. The indoor spa, known as the “Jungle Spa,” is packed with features for both children and adults, including a hot spring with natural hot spring water, a tub bath, a barrel-shaped sauna, a cold bath, and slides and water guns . The food is an exciting buffet with over 60 dishes, mainly seafood from the Izu coast. Access is approximately two and a half hours from Tokyo to Izu Atagawa on the “Odoriko” limited express train. Once you arrive at Izu Atagawa Station, the hotel is a five-minute walk away, but a free shuttle bus is also available. By car, it’s about three hours from Tokyo. Izu Atagawa Onsen Hotel Katara Resort & Spa The SPA parking lot is right in front of the hotel entrance. Reservations are not required for the shuttle bus, which runs from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The entrance is decorated with tropical-style plants, creating a resort-like atmosphere. The lobby has a bright atmosphere with plenty of light streaming in through the large windows. The interior of the hotel has a cute Halloween atmosphere. This is the front desk. Room entry is from 3:00 PM, but you can start processing from 12:00 PM. Next to the front desk is the yukata corner, which has a variety of patterns available and a wide range of sizes for children’s yukatas. Next to that is the amenity corner. There are hairbrushes and razors, and the rest are said to be in the rooms. I came to Circus Land on the third floor. The circus-designed room There’s a space crane game, a Thomas the Tank Engine ride, and more, making it a fun place for small children . Massage chairs are available in a trial plan starting at 100 yen for 4 minutes, and a VIP plan for 500 yen for 30 minutes. You can also play Pac-Man for free. There’s even a merry-go-round. Children up to 10 years old can ride for 300 yen per person. Here you can purchase popcorn, cotton candy, popsicles, and more. This is the kids’ room , one of the largest in the area, boasting the popular air trampoline, a moveable Plarail diorama, and even space bouldering with picture books, building blocks, and even dolls. Plarail rentals are 300 yen for 300 minutes. This is PAU There are HANA darts, karaoke, and a table tennis corner . There was also a slot machine. Darts can be rented at the front desk. Table tennis is available by reservation for 280 yen for 30 minutes, or 560 yen for an hour. Karaoke is also available by reservation for 2,200 yen for an hour. The model was DAM. There is also a smoking area in the same place. This is Kids Kingdom, a new facility that opened on July 19th. It is a kids’ park with a kids’ circuit and large-scale projection mapping. It’s fun to be able to drive an electric car around the circuit. This is projection mapping. A car that you have painted yourself is projected on screen. It’s an interesting game where the car races. This is Lounge KAZUSA. They serve snacks, alcohol, sweets, soft serve ice cream, and more . You can use it freely for up to 9 hours free of charge from 12:30 to 21:30. It’s amazing that they can use it from 12:30. They also have 5 types of Umaibo, sauce cutlets , kakinotane (persimmon seeds), and mixed nuts. They also have shaved ice, soft serve ice cream pancakes, and toppings such as whipped cream, etc. English: There is also fruit in kinako syrup, maple syrup and chocolate sauce, and refreshing tokoroten . There is also all- you-can -drink alcohol . In addition to beer, there are highballs, sours, local sake, etc. Red and white wine are also available. Light snacks are ramen and curry. You boil the ramen yourself. This lounge is on the “Autumn Inclusive” which is available for a limited time from September 1st to November 30th. They previously offered the “Summer Inclusive”, so it may be extended as a “Winter Inclusive” in the future. Check the official website for the latest information on future plans. For dessert, we had pancakes. They have a Japanese taste with bean paste and kinako. We started with beer. That’s how we ordered. A toast . The curry was spicy and delicious. Even the lady could just about manage the spiciness. The ramen had thick noodles which were satisfying. While we were enjoying light snacks in the lounge, a staff member came to us and said our room was ready. It was not yet 1pm! There is a washing area as soon as you enter . This is the indoor bath. Hotel Katara has three private hot springs. The spring quality is a sodium chloride and sulfate spring, and the hot spring is characterized by a soft, slightly alkaline texture. This is the spacious open-air bath. In Tsukiakari no Yu, the starry sky and the fantastic moonlight, as the name suggests, will soothe your daily fatigue. There are several quaint rock baths and even a TV monitor installed. You can see the ocean from the tub bath. There is also a barrel-shaped Finnish sauna. The walls are transparent, so you can see the ocean. There is also a cold bath outside, where you can fully relax. This is the water server at the entrance to MANA. The powder room is based on white and looks clean and easy to use. Opposite there are hair dryers and skin care products. The long, straight marble indoor bath is very spacious, so it seems like you can relax without it getting crowded. Flower panels are decorated on the walls. This sauna is very spacious and looks like it could fit more than 10 people. There is a TV here as well. Outside the sauna there was a cold bath and a jet bath. This is the open-air bath. The spacious bathtub is a stone bath that seems to connect to the sea. Looking up at night, you can see the beautiful moon that is unique to Izu, and the sound of the waves that can be heard up close creates a resort atmosphere. Next, we will go to the Jungle Spa. The Jungle Spa is open from 3 PM to 11 PM, and is a facility where you can experience a real tropical jungle without leaving the hotel. The Jungle Spa is lush with natural tropical plants. It was also chosen as a filming location for the hit movie “Thermae Romae.” There are nine different bathtubs and jacuzzis, both large and small, and you can enjoy the feeling of exploring a real jungle. The water used in the Jungle Spa is also amazing, as it is natural hot spring water drawn from the source of Izu Atagawa Onsen. There is even a slide . Inside the Jungle Spa, there is a tropical climate. There are 13 animal figures lined up, and you can play by hitting them with a water gun. There is also an event where you can win prizes if you find all 13 animals. It was a fun spa where you could play in your swimsuit. This is the Stone Bath. At the entrance to the Spa, a majestic graphic art of a red Fuji catches your eye, and inside, you can enjoy a warm far-infrared bath with a fantastic illustration of the galaxy in the background. The facility is fully reserved for 50 minutes, costing 1,500 yen for one person and 2,000 yen for two people. There is a coin laundry and spin-drying machine here. The washing machine costs 200 yen per use, and the dryer costs 100 yen for 30 minutes. The spin-drying machine can be used for free. The shop offers a wide selection of original goods, Izu specialties and local products, as well as local sake from Shizuoka and Izu. Snacks and alcohol are also available for purchase. This is Katara’s most popular facility, the “All Season Pool.” It is open from 12 noon to 9 pm, and from 9 am the next day until 12 noon after check-out. The all-season pool and jungle spa set fee is 1,100 yen, but if you make a reservation through the official website, you can use it for free. Of course, the water temperature of Atagawa Onsen is about 33 degrees all year round, so you can enjoy the pool comfortably even in winter. The main pool is 120 cm deep, and there is also a corner slide that is 50 cm deep, so it is safe for small children. Next to the pool is the ocean-view “Sunnyside Terrace.” You can lie on a beach bed and feel the sea breeze and enjoy the resort atmosphere . The azure sea and clear sky are so beautiful that you can’t help but stare at the view . Sana Island floated there, exuding a quiet presence. After swimming in the pool, I got hungry, so I came back to the lounge. I had curry ramen, a combination of curry and ramen. I had tokoroten with vinegar and soy sauce. The syrup for the shaved ice was strawberry and melon, and I forgot the other one, but there were three types in total. It’s nice to be able to have a snack after playing so much. Dinner is in a few hours, so I have to be careful not to eat too much. Thank you for the meal. Having completed the Jungle Spa event, I came to the front desk. YURARITABI It was time for dinner. The venue was the dining room “Kirohana”. 90-minute limit from 5:30 PM to 9 PM. On this day, we had unreserved seating. You can enjoy your meal while looking out at the sea. This is the live kitchen. There are 8 types of tempura. You order and receive yakitori and crab for the number of people. This is the amount for 3 servings. This is the sashimi corner. You can also make seafood bowls with a wide variety of sashimi. There are 11 types of sashimi alone. They even have natural ingredients, which is unique to a hotel in Izu near the sea. This is the dessert corner. There is a wide variety, from Western cakes to Japanese sweets such as ohagi. There is also a handmade dessert corner. We decorated tarts and muffins with cream. We immediately started serving up the sashimi. We ordered 3 servings of crab and 3 servings of yakitori. The yakitori had negima, thigh, and chicken skin, and it was said that it was only seasoned with sauce, not salt. We got the thigh and negima. This is how it was . Dad looked like this . Sister looked like this. Crab and yakitori for 3 people. Dinner is not all-you- can-drink, so alcohol is charged. Here is the menu . We started with salad . We put a sweet sauce and shichimi on the yakitori. English: The beer went down well with this . There was plenty of sashimi . The amberjack was delicious with just the right amount of fat. The wild red sea bream was refreshing and I could have eaten as much as I wanted. The Western-style sukiyaki had melt-in- your-mouth meat. There were so many types of tempura, I was excited. The crab also had a light taste and I could have eaten a lot of it. It was about time for dessert. There were vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream flavors, as well as home run bars and popsicles , so it was hard to choose. The Hokkaido adzuki bean ohagi looked delicious. I tried putting ice cream on a tart. The best thing about this buffet was the wild red sea bream. It had a great texture and seemed very fresh. I was a little surprised that there was no sushi, but there was plenty of sashimi, so I was satisfied. The ohagi was also delicious and I had seconds at the end. Thank you for the meal. After dinner, we went to the night pool, which has a different atmosphere at night. The night pool is open until 9pm, so we could enjoy it until late into the night. We went to the lounge again in the evening and toasted with lemon sour, cassis sour, and orange juice. What is your favorite flavor of Umaibo? My sister said it was shrimp mayonnaise. Shrimp mayonnaise has quite a rich flavor. I looked at the night view from my room and said good night. Good morning. It’s nice weather again today. It’s time for breakfast. Breakfast is from 7am to 9pm and there is free seating in the morning too. First, let’s take a look at the salad corner . The morning live kitchen offers omelets. You can choose your toppings from bacon, tomato, cheese, jalapeno, onion, and minced meat. Omelettes originate in France and mean “thinly fried egg dish.” Originally a simple egg dish, it has now been adapted all over the world and is a standard menu item at breakfast buffets in Japan. The ingredients and cooking methods vary from country to country, from fluffy and soft to well-cooked. In the live kitchens of Japanese hotels, fluffy, soft-boiled omelets are the norm, right? I would like to have a simple, plain one. This is rice and miso. 。 English : In the soup section, this is chicken rice. It is a local dish from the Amami Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is different from chicken rice, and is like a dish of chazuke in dashi broth. We immediately began serving ourselves. For breakfast, we had a seafood bowl . We sat by the window in the morning, and ate like this. Dad ate like this, and my sister ate like this. Hotel Katara seems to be a popular hotel with families with children. On this day, more than 80% of the guests were with small children. The dining area was very lively, but if you enter for breakfast at 7am, it seems easy to use without being crowded. It gets more and more crowded as it approaches 8am. We started with the amberjack bowl. The meat was thick and delicious. The omelette was simply delicious. For dessert, we had bread. We also picked some fruit . I was happy to see such a wide variety of fruit. The melon was especially sweet and delicious . The waffles and chocolate Danish were also sweet and delicious, making them perfect for dessert. Thank you for the meal. It’s time to check out. Check-out is by 10am. Facilities such as the pool can be used until noon. It’s amazing that you can stay for a total of 24 hours. Finally, I’d like to introduce the prices and my impressions of Izu Atagawa Onsen Hotel Katara RESORT & SPA. Hotel Katara’s accommodation rates start from 16,600 yen per adult for one night with two meals included with the early bird plan on the official website . The regular plan is around 18,400 yen. When I searched on Yahoo Travel, I found that there were days when I could make a reservation for the lowest price of around 12,000 yen, so it may be cheaper than booking on the official website. The ocean view from the guest room was very open, and it was an exceptional experience to relax and listen to the sound of the waves. There are plenty of spaces to enjoy throughout your stay, including a lounge that is open from 12:30pm, a pool, a jungle spa, and Kids Kingdom. The facilities are old, so some people may be concerned about this. Overall, I felt that this is a resort hotel that can be recommended to a wide range of people, from family trips to couples and friends. Details are in the description, so please check it out. Thank you for watching until the end. Yurari Travel from 12:30pm Free buffet lunch from 12:30pm Buffet from 12:30pm Buffet from 12:30 Buffet from 12:30 Buffet
