The Long Wait」Kuma Art Museum “Ryohei Suga The Long Wait”

This is a solo exhibition by Ehime Prefecture-born artist Suga Ryohei. The theme is “pine.” Pine trees, which remain lush even in winter, have long been worshipped as symbols of immortality and longevity, and as trees upon which gods descend. At the same time, they have been closely linked to people’s lives, with pine soot ink and pine root oil being used to make them.
The exhibition title is “The Long Wait,” inspired by the theory that the etymology of the word “pine” is “wait.” We experienced a new realm for Suga Ryohei, who reexamines the “relationship with nature,” which is at the heart of Japanese culture.
*Photography and videography were permitted throughout the exhibition, with some exceptions.
