This is a peninsula in Akita facing the Sea of Japan. A land full of the ocean’s vibrant energy. Please enjoy the beautiful, nature-rich scenery with a peaceful heart. Today’s weather is perfect—blue skies and radiant sunshine. In this wonderful climate, I came here to gaze at the sea. “Nyudozaki” The black-and-white lighthouse stands alone—so cute😊 Behind it are rows of restaurants still closed for the morning. I’m craving a seafood bowl—it’s been a while🐟 Thinking about that, I head toward the ocean. The deep blue sea draws closer and closer. In front of it stood some kind of monument. Apparently, this marks the 40th parallel north. The sun and the lighthouse. Blue skies and green grass. I’m enchanted by this spacious, uncluttered view. And the sea itself is just breathtaking… The rugged rocks add a raw touch of nature—so beautiful. This terrain was formed by layers of volcanic ash and gravel, and is one of several geosites on the Oga Peninsula. The silhouette beneath the distant clouds is likely Aomori Prefecture. The lighthouse gently watches over this tranquil scene. The weather’s so nice—let’s take a walk around the lighthouse. A short walk led to a road tracing the coastline. Walking roads like this during a trip is the best feeling. My view is filled with the natural colors of green and blue. This kind of open scenery is great for the mind😌 Ahead lies a path leading to the sea. Going too far might make the return tiring, so I take a side path to quietly admire the ocean. So peaceful… Everywhere I walk feels like a healing spot. From the cliff, the sea sparkled with reflected sunlight. It feels like my soul is being purified. Slightly greenish and crystal clear—like a tropical island. This is my second time seeing the beautiful sea of Oga Peninsula. The first time was my first long trip after buying my car. I had just bought a camera then, so I didn’t capture great photos, but the vast nature of Oga left a lasting impression in my memory. Today I returned, unable to forget that scenery, and just like my memory, the vivid blue view spread before me. Oga Peninsula’s seaside really is the best🙏 This Nyudozaki Lighthouse is a historic structure built 120 years ago. At the time, only two wooden lighthouses stood along the Sea of Japan in Yamagata, Akita, and Aomori, so this high-performance lighthouse, visible from 37 km away, caused quite a stir. Today, it’s a popular spot where visitors can climb to the top. The view from this charming black-and-white tower must be stunning. Let’s climb to the top. Inside the lighthouse, windows here and there offer stylish views of the sea. From the very top, the Sea of Japan looks amazing—and the air is so fresh☀️ The grassy field I walked on earlier now has a few people appearing. It’s still early in the morning, but they must be here to enjoy the refreshing atmosphere. Traveling is best when you start in the morning😌 I once chatted with the owner of a seaside café, who said they couldn’t imagine living without the ocean in front of their home. Seeing such soul-soothing scenery, I think I understand that feeling. Returning inland might feel a bit suffocating. “Namahagegoten” When you’re by the sea, a seafood bowl is a must. Salmon, ikura, flying fish roe, scallops, crab, shrimp, uni, abalone… It was super expensive, but with uni and abalone, it was incredibly luxurious! I’m starving—forget the photos, let’s eat🙏 Thick and springy—the texture is absolutely divine… Especially the uni—no fishy smell at all, totally different from what you get inland. Seafood this glossy—I haven’t seen anything like it since my uni bowl in Hokkaido last year. I want to treat myself to top-tier seafood at least once a year. “Oga Aquarium GAO” I’ve arrived at the aquarium. A graceful ray glides through the water—this tank is mesmerizing💭 I had planned to spend the day just gazing at the sea, but I remembered I hadn’t visited an aquarium in about a year, and suddenly wanted to see fish swimming elegantly. Aquariums by the sea are the best🐟 This is the largest tank near the entrance, and the fish are moving freely in their own ways. I want to focus on different fish, but I keep getting drawn to the ray… Its fluttering movements are just so elegant. Are these trout, maybe? I always try to read the descriptions before looking at the fish, but I just can’t seem to remember their names😇 So even after coming to the aquarium, all I can say is “Wow, pretty…” They say naming helps deepen understanding—I really want to learn them… Is this the tropical fish area? Emerald green water, coral reefs stretching out, and tiny fish dancing around. Tropical fish are often colorful and dazzling. The reason for their colors isn’t fully understood, but theories include camouflage and species recognition. There are still so many mysteries left unsolved, and that sense of wonder is part of the ocean’s charm. This one must be a pirarucu. A living fossil from the Amazon—definitely bigger than me😶 This is one of only two aquariums in Japan that keep polar bears. Polar bears are said to be the largest land carnivores, but their fluffy appearance is surprisingly adorable😊 A little further ahead was the jellyfish area. Their translucent, delicate forms glowing in the light are always a joy to see. Some move with tiny, intricate motions, while others drift slowly, trailing their fins behind. Each unique movement draws you in completely. There’s a jellyfish-specialized aquarium in Yamagata called Kamo Aquarium. Though small in scale, its variety and presentation of jellyfish are truly moving. If you love aquariums, it’s definitely worth visiting at least once. It’s set to be renovated in April 2026, so I’d love to go again. Next, I came across a seal floating on the water’s surface. Its twitching nose and bobbing body are just too cute🤔 Apparently, you can also view them from below. They’re swimming so freely😶 Their graceful quick turns at the tank’s edge are so efficient, yet their plump, fatty bodies create an irresistible contrast😊 They look like the perfect cuddle pillows for a good night’s sleep. Watching them from below is fun—I could stay here forever. You can also view the seals from another angle. The way the light filters in here is beautiful. The wide transparent panels let you observe each seal all at once. As much as I’d love to stay, I’ve got other places to visit today, so I’ll wrap up seal-watching and move on. Next stop: a lively sandy beach. “Unosaki Beach” The rhythmic ripples are so beautiful😌 This beach is shallow far out—you can walk up to 200 meters into the sea. Lots of families are playing far out, and it looks like so much fun😊 When the tide is lower, this whole area becomes a water mirror, creating a magical, dreamlike scene. Today I’ll just enjoy the cheerful vibes and head to the final destination. “Mt. Kanpu” This is a place with overwhelmingly vast panoramic views. In the distance, a sweeping arc of coastline and neatly lined wind turbines. I’ve parked the car—now to climb up to the observation deck. Facing west, sunlight spills through the towering cumulus clouds. Even thick clouds can’t compete with the sun’s rays. Below them, a vivid display of “angel’s ladders.” It’s like something out of a fairytale. I walk on, taking in the surrounding sights. As the sun begins to set, the blue sky takes on a hint of orange, and I feel a touch of sadness at the day’s end. The more fulfilling the day, the harder it is to say goodbye. No matter how many times I travel, that feeling never changes. Even the beautiful driving routes I’ve taken, will slowly fade from memory as time passes. To resist that fading, I want to keep documenting my journeys. The beams of light are even clearer than before😶 Looking closely, the water that hasn’t fully evaporated glows orange. Orange light running through the trees—what a stunning sight… In the distance, clouds line up in a row, faintly reflected on the sea. Below, a large green hollow reveals the crater of Mount Kampu. This shows that this place was once a volcanic caldera. I visited here the first time I came to the Oga Peninsula, and was overwhelmed by the refreshing, cool scenery. Back then it was midday, but now it’s evening. It’s hard to say which time is better, but if you want to imprint Akita’s scenery in your eyes, go during the day. If you want to remember it as a romantic scene, evening is best. Even the same place shows different expressions depending on season, time, and weather, so I really love revisiting the same spots. When I returned to the car to grab something I forgot, the sun was about to set. The colors were breathtakingly beautiful… Behind the observation deck, a giant cotton candy cloud had appeared. A lone wind turbine spun slowly, and for some reason, it gave off a slightly apocalyptic vibe. The ground on the opposite side was swallowed by shadow, with only a sliver of sunlight left. The sun, hidden behind clouds, slowly sank toward the sea, and the leaves seemed lonely, surrendering themselves to the wind. Watching the world grow darker, I decided to end the journey. Today I strolled along the sea of the Oga Peninsula, and every place was vast, full of Akita’s great nature. The deep blue sky and sea, the graceful swimming fish, and the orange-tinted sunset—all were top-tier. Touched by such transparent beauty, I’ll carry this as strength to keep going in everyday life. That’s it for today. Bye-bye. If you enjoyed this, please subscribe, like, and send some hype.
