Hello, this is siosai. Following on from my previous video, “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes,” this time I’ll be introducing Yakuin, a popular area in Fukuoka. I’ve picked out cafes near Yakuin Station, where the Fukuoka Municipal Subway and Nishitetsu Tenjin-Omuta Line intersect, as well as Yakuin-Odori Station and Hirao Station. Since I chose cafes close to the station, please check them out along with my previous video, “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes.” NO COFFEE, a 8-minute walk from Yakuin Station It’s no exaggeration to say that NO COFFEE is a lifestyle brand originating in Fukuoka. Located in a quiet residential area of Hirao. Its concept is “Life with good coffee.” Having successfully collaborated with various brands, NO COFFEE’s merchandise featuring the logo makes a welcome souvenir from your trip to Fukuoka. They offer a wide selection of espresso and latte drinks. The cafe is popular with tourists from far and wide, who enjoy sitting on mortar benches, sipping coffee, and taking photos. ROUND COUNTER, a 6-minute walk from Yakuin-Odori Station Located along the road west of Yakuin-Odori Station toward Sakurazaka, is ROUND COUNTER. The owner is a barista and pattern maker. The interior of the shop is divided into sections, behind which clothing and aprons are sewn. They offer several varieties of cold brew coffee. They also sell stylish clothing and miscellaneous goods made in-house. These vanilla and cocoa cookies are delicious. Choose your favorite seat from the wide variety of chairs. REC COFFEE Yakuin, a 2-minute walk from Yakuin Station It is a specialty coffee shop featured in our “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes” article. It serves as their flagship store. Initially, they operated as a mobile coffee shop using a truck. Later, in 2010, they opened their first brick-and-mortar store in Yakuin. Cafes in Fukuoka typically stay open late into the night. Among them, “REC COFFEE Yakuin” serves coffee until 1:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Not only is the coffee made by a barista who won second place at a world championship, but the pairing cakes are also delicious. It’s one of our favorite cafes. manu coffee kujira, a 2-minute walk from Yakuin Station It is also a branch of “manu coffee daimyo,” which we introduced in our “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes” article. This flagship store also doubles as a coffee bean roaster. The origin of the name “kujira” (whale) is beyond my time to explain here (please do research). After paying on the first floor, a staff member will bring your coffee up to the second floor. The cafe offers a variety of seating options, including individual seats with power outlets, sofas for groups, and raised tatami seating, making it ideal for a variety of occasions, including chatting, computer work, and meetings. COFFEE COUNTY Fukuoka, a 5-minute walk from Yakuin Station COFFEE COUNTY’s main store is located in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and its second store opened in Yakuin in 2016. Its blue-green exterior is very similar to the one in Kurume. The lavender-colored sign is a great landmark. The owner once lived on a coffee farm in Nicaragua. Their dedication to coffee is reflected in the information about the origin of the coffee beans that is provided with each drink. In addition to coffee beans, they also sell coffee drippers, grinders, and other equipment. This cafe is perfect for learning more about coffee. CAFE COMMA, a 9-minute walk from Yakuin Station “CAFE COMMA” opened in March 2025 in the residential area of Shirogane, a 5-minute walk from COFFEE COUNTY. The owner is Korean and previously ran a cafe in Korea. This truly Korean-style cafe is their specialty: baked goods. The wide variety of scones in particular makes it hard to decide which one to order. (Their German-style pancakes, “Dutch Baby,” are also popular.) The dark coffee pairs perfectly with sweet treats. The tableware, including the saucers and cups, is also cute. “GOOD UP COFFEE” is a nine-minute walk from Hirao Station It relocated and reopened in January 2025. It’s a two-minute walk from CAFE COMMA. The interior is larger than its Takasago location in Chuo Ward, allowing for a more relaxed cafe experience. While famous for its “Azuki Butter Toast,” the new menu items are also highly recommended. The Reuben sandwich with pastrami and sauerkraut and the rich salmon clam chowder are also must-try items. The staff are also friendly. “L+HIRAO” is a one-minute walk from Hirao Station L+HIRAO is a complex opened in front of Hirao Station by LANDIC, a Fukuoka real estate company. With a kitchen, living room, loft, and more, this cafe feels like you’re having tea in a model home. It also offers residential facilities, such as a houseplant sales center and a reservation-only model home on the second floor. Dogs are allowed at L+HIRAO, making it a popular spot among dog lovers. THE SANDWICH STAND, a one-minute walk from Yakuin-Odori Station “THE SANDWICH STAND” is a sandwich specialty shop. It’s a sister store of “maison cake,” featured in our “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes” list. While many customers order takeout, you can also dine in for breakfast or lunch. In addition to the “Morning Plate” croque monsieur set menu, you can also have your chosen sandwich arranged on a plate. This is the “Thick-Sliced Ham Cutlet & Pumpkin Salad Sandwich.” It gets busy during lunchtime, so we recommend visiting early in the morning. “CAFE POTTERS” is a three-minute walk from Yakuin-Odori Station. Founded in Josui-dori in 1991, “BBB POTTERS” moved to Yakuin in 2005 and remains a beloved general store to this day. On the second floor, you’ll find “CAFE POTTERS.” The three “B”s in the store’s name stand for “Brew,” “Bake,” and “Boil.” The cafe’s popularity stems from the fact that its inspiration can be enjoyed through its flavors. At “CAFE POTTERS,” you can enjoy crepes and galettes created by a Japanese chef who trained in Brittany, France. Incidentally, this chef is also the owner and chef of “Le BRETON,” a renowned imaidumi restaurant featured in the “Tenjin Cafe Top 10” video. It’s amazing how great cafes are connected to each other. This concludes our introduction to the “Top 10 Yakuin Cafes.” The Yakuin and Hirao area is also home to several other cafes, including “MANLY COFFEE,” “Kursukoto,” “abeki,” and “ON SUGAR.” Please use this video and our “Top 10 Tenjin Cafes” as a reference to find your favorite cafe during your stroll or trip to Fukuoka.
