Today, I’m heading to Mino-Kanayama Castle in Gifu Prefecture. First, I’ll head to Akechi Station on the Meitetsu Hiromi Line. From Akechi Station, I’ll take a bus. I’ll get off at the Kidosaka bus stop. First, I’ll head to the castle entrance. Mino-Kanayama Castle was built by Saito Masayoshi, a vassal of Saito Dosan. Later, Oda Nobunaga invaded Mino and appointed his vassal Mori Kanenari as the castle’s lord. Since then, it was the Mori clan’s castle for 35 years. After walking for about 10 minutes, I can see the castle entrance. I go up the stone steps. There is a shrub cut in the shape of the Mori family crest. It seems that this well was also used for Mori Ranmaru’s birth bath. I’ll go further. I’ve come to a place where I can see the stone walls of the outer citadel. I’ll go towards the outer citadel. It is said that there was a building like a Tamon-yagura here. Before going to the main citadel, I’ll go to the observation deck. From here, I can see the downtown area of Kani City. There is a large moat up ahead, so I’ll go and see it. It looks to be about 10 meters high. I’ll go back on the road and head to the main citadel. We have arrived at Sannomaru. There are traces of the castle’s destruction. This is the remains of Mizunote Gate. It seems that Mizunote was located further down. This monument was erected in 1953 when the castle was sold to the locals. We have arrived at Ninomaru. Based on the shape of the foundation stones, it is believed that there was once a building with a walkway here. We continue towards the Ote-kochi gate ahead. It is a masugata-kochi gate. We pass the remains of Ninomon Gate. This is Minami-Koshi Kuruwa . In front of us is the base of the Honmaru castle tower. It is bent here so that a cross arrow could be placed. This is also a masugata-kochi gate. We have arrived at Honmaru . It is believed that there used to be buildings such as a palace and turrets in the Honmaru. Here you can see the Kiso River in the direction of Gifu. There is a monument to Kanayama Castle. Here you can see the castle town to the north. Now that I have regained my strength, I will continue down. On the way down I will pass through the back gate. This is the remains of Higashi-Koshi Kuruwa. You can see a water collection basin below. I will go down the back gate. Is this also the remains of a kuruwa? Take the left path to the remains of the rice storehouse. We have arrived at the remains of the rice storehouse. The 6m high stone wall continues for over 40m. A rice storehouse was built here to store rice as tax. Finally, we visit the Sengoku Yamashiro Museum before heading home. Thank you for watching.
