【一生に一度は見たい】祇園祭 前祭・山鉾巡行2025|壮麗な伝統行列に密着

Hello everyone This is Yugo from Kyoto. Today is July 17th. It’s the day of the Gion Festival’s Yamaboko Junko (float procession). Take a look everyone, right away. The procession is underway. Oh, what’s this? It’s raining heavily, so they’re covered with covers. Since ancient times, the Yamaboko Junko has been… held even in rain, or even a storm, I think. I think it’s been… a strong determination to proceed even in heavy rain. They’ll go ahead even on a day with really heavy rain. That’s what’s said. Previously, I think around 2016, even when a typhoon came, the Yamaboko Junko was held. It truly shows how… it goes on regardless of rain or wind. That’s what the Yamaboko Junko is all about. No, today is really… amazing. You can see for yourselves, it’s the main day of the Gion Festival. Generally, the pre-festival has 23 floats, and the post-festival has 10 or so floats, so we’re talking about how many floats there are in the Yamaboko, and since the pre-festival has more, a lot of people tend to focus on the pre-festival. As you can see, it’s an incredible crowd. Oh, by the way, this is the Tsukiboko (Moon Float). Even though it’s raining, I’m sure many people are worried if it will be held tomorrow, but the Yamaboko Junko will be held regardless. Really. Today, I’d like to enjoy the Yamaboko Junko together with everyone. Before that, let me show you… the Naginata-boko and the Kikusui-boko’s (I was also able to film others!) turning… Ah, the Tujimawashi (turning at the intersection). I was able to film it, so let’s watch that first, everyone. Everyone, what did you think of the Tujimawashi? I arrived rather late, around 9:45, but at the perfect time, the Naginata-boko and the Kikusui-boko were doing the Tujimawashi. I filmed that, and then started like this. I am now. Wow. People involved in the religious service. It must be tough for them. The seats for those involved are tough too. It’s raining heavily. Oh, what is this? What float is this? Ah, this is the one I was told the kanji reading was wrong for. What was it again? Mekusayama. I used to read it as Kizokuyama, but apparently it’s read as Kikusayama. Mosayama Ah, it’s Tokusayama. Tokusayama. Kiku Cool. Making a clang-clang sound. I wanted to see the Kamakiri (mantis), but I guess the Kamakiri is over. Up to Tokusayama. That’s it. Walking from Omiya to Karasu-jima, the first float you encounter is… Here it is. I saw it. Yes. The children are wearing raincoats too. It is. Recently. Yes Market acceleration. It continues. Taishisayama. Well, you all saw the turning point at Shijo Kawaramachi, and it was incredibly crowded, but once you get to this area, there are hardly any people, so… it’s like… people feel most relaxed here. And it’s the closest too. Watching it, you meet the floats. Oh. What was that again? . Oh, there, there… Yes Amazing. Um, that clanging sound is… to make the tires point straight. To change direction, they use that board. Something like a… rice paddle, you know? Because, look. *Clang!* *Tap!* Oh, it stopped, it stopped. It got stuck, it’s jammed. We have to get it out, in this case, we tap it out with a hammer. The Niwatori Hoko had a tire blowout during the procession last year. The tire cracked and the procession was stopped—a bitter memory… we have. This year, I hope it can run to the end. Please Wow. And what’s amazing about this is that it’s fixed only with string, without any nails. This is assembled only with string, without using any nails. Something assembled only with string… runs this well. Isn’t that amazing? So, we’ll stop chasing the chicken here, since the Niwatori Hoko is the 17th float, and then 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and Rocky. There are six more. Ashitoriyama. Ishikariyama. We have to cross to the other side, but we can’t. Ashitoriyama. Oh. Right. Last. Well, it’s a nice, uh, sound. The tone is nice. This is really… the sound. The sound is nice, somehow. So, this is number 18 and 19, I think. Four more. That Okay. Oh. The back is fire protection. It’s making that whirring noise. Oh. I thought a child was riding, but no. The adult in the back is operating it. Not this one. Something white is attached to the back… I wonder what it is. Iwatoyama. They’re holding flowers. It’s like a standing ovation,… with umbrellas. Yes Right. Yeah. Iwatoyama is a mountain, yet they’re holding something like a… thing. Now, this is the last one, the Umeyama float. Everyone keeps… Yeah. It’s already over. Ready… set… No. No. Yes. It says “ship.” And, at the very back of the Yamaboko Junko procession… there were people in suits… a shadowy organization, the cars of a shadowy organization. All black. So, the Yamaboko Junko procession, what did you all think? Well, I could have followed it to the end, but… it would have turned into a monotonous 2 or 3-hour video, so… I’d like to end it around here. If you liked today’s video, please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel. Comments are also encouraging for video making, so please leave some. When writing comments, please feel free to write in your native language. It doesn’t have to be Japanese. So everyone, thank you for watching today. Bye-bye. Oh. Ah, the people who put the traffic signals back… They’re putting the traffic signals back, look, look, look. Let’s watch, let’s watch, this is… the Yamaboko Junko procession… the traffic signals are being reset starting from where the procession ended. Let’s watch this at the end. Gion Festival, Traffic Signal Crew. Wow, that’s cool. Oh, it’s over, it’s over, I didn’t catch up in the end. So. Everyone, the ending might have been a bit of an anti-climax, but thank you all very much. Bye-bye.
