Onento is a beautiful lake sitting just west of Lake Akan, east Hokkaido. “Onneto” means ‘Aged Marsh’ in the Ainu language. The surface of the lake changes color continuously – from a deep green jade to a blue starlit sky.
In the early morning, I was fascinated by a cloud rolling in over the sun-lit edge of the lakeside mountain.
オネントーは阿寒湖の西にある美しい湖です。オネントーとは、アイヌ語で「年老いた沼」という意味です。湖面は季節や時間帯によって、翡翠のような緑色から星空のような蒼へと、刻々と姿を変えてゆきます。
早朝、朝日に照らされた山嶺を、転がるように流れていく雲を見ました。それは本当に神秘的で、神々しい風景でした。
