Hello everyone! This is Naru! This time, we’re visiting a highland resort that represents Nagano Prefecture, we’ve come to Tateshina! Nagano Prefecture is broadly divided into the four areas of Hokushin, Toshin, Chushin, and Nanshin. (Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Shinshu) The Tateshina area we’re visiting this time is located in the Nanshin area of Nagano, and is a highland resort stretching at the foot of the majestic Yatsugatake Mountains. (Yatsugatake-renpo) To the north, you can see the beautiful Mt. Tateshina. (Tateshina-yama) And the Venus Line, which starts from Tateshina, is a scenic road that connects Chino City to the Utsukushigahara Highlands, with a total length of 75.2km. Its highest point reaches an altitude of 1,959 meters. Along this road, you’ll find popular resort areas like the Tateshina Highlands and Lake Shirakaba, and also a treasure trove of alpine plants, the expansive Kirigamine! In this Kirigamine area, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from its main peak, Mt. Kurumayama, and see the Yashimagahara Wetlands, which is designated as a national natural monument. It’s packed with highlights!! And at the end of the line, hailed as the most beautiful plateau in Japan, the Utsukushigahara Highlands awaits. Regarding access, it’s about a 10-minute drive from the Suwa IC to the start of the Venus Line. If you’re using the train, it’s about 2 hours from Shinjuku to Chino Station. From Chino Station, renting a car is convenient!! Getting around locally is mainly by car, but local buses are also available in some sections!! We’ve arrived in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture! Take a look behind me! You can see the beautiful Mishaka-ike Pond! (Mishaka-ike Pond) It’s a reservoir for agriculture! The water around here is cold, so they collect it in a place like this first, warm the water with sunlight, and then channel it to the farmlands! It’s incredibly beautiful, isn’t it? You wouldn’t think it’s just a reservoir! We saw a deer earlier, and that was beautiful too! The famous Kaii Higashiyama painting was of a white horse, but today we got to see a deer! It was so beautiful! When something appears over there, everything looks mystical, you know? Even the ducks looked so mystical! Let’s continue our journey through Tateshina♪ It’s quite a steep descent! We’re passing by Meiji Onsen! We’ve arrived at Oshidori-kakushi no Taki waterfall! We walked for about 10 minutes from the Mishaka-ike Pond parking lot! Look! The flow of this waterfall! The current is quite strong, isn’t it? It’s tiered, making it an interesting waterfall! The way the rocks are glistening and smooth is really nice! It’s so cool here! It’s unbelievably cool for summer!! I’m soaking up so many negative ions! lol There was a sign saying how many negative ions! It says you can bathe in 15,000 negative ions!! Nice! Tateshina is so cool and refreshing♪ Feels great! Feels like we’re deep in the forest! This is nice! We found a unique water spot nearby!! There’s a pot! The water flows into this pot, and then comes out of the faucet!! So cold! It feels amazing! I’ve never seen anything like this! It feels like they are using real, natural spring water! Amazing! This is so impressive! You should definitely see this! It’s right by the waterfall!! There was a cute dog, too♪ The weather is absolutely perfect!! A calm and relaxing interior. The cafe is so cute! This place is a renovated storehouse (“kura”), and you eat while looking out at the garden! It’s like an old Japanese house cafe (“kominka cafe”). The food is also so cute! They have an Onigiri Plate and a Bread Plate, and I chose the Onigiri Plate! I’ll start with the ginger onigiri. Wow, it looks delicious! It’s so white!! Delicious! It has a subtle hint of ginger, it’s really delicious! The rice is so fluffy. Delicious! Masa is having the bread! It’s quite a hard-crust type of bread! It has walnuts in it! Yum! Is it fluffy? Moist? Moist? I can’t tell. Fluffy. So it’s fluffy. Can you taste butter? What kind of jam is this? This jam is… Strawberry? It was rhubarb jam! Is it sour? Like sweet and sour? Yes! Looks delicious! The bread looks fancy too! Nice. It’s walnuts! So it is walnuts! Are there big chunks of walnuts? Oh no, I can’t… No, we’ll use it! I’m retiring!! I’m retiring from food reporting! We’re using this clip. All I could figure out was the walnuts!☺️ lol Lake Tateshina, originally created as a warm water reservoir for agriculture, is a charming artificial lake nestled in the highlands at an altitude of 1,250m. Surrounded by forests of birch and larch, the beautiful form of Mt. Tateshina reflected on the lake’s surface is truly a magnificent view! From the parking lot area, we’ve come almost to the opposite side. The mountains… You can see the Yatsugatake mountains, and it’s really beautiful! You can enjoy Lake Tateshina and the mountains♪ You can also see the Kita-Yatsugatake Ropeway! Yeah, you can see it over there! You can see the arrival station!! And a little bit of Mt. Tateshina, too! It’s beautiful. The blue sky with those summery clouds is perfect! It’s a bit of a walk, but it’s worth coming! It was about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot! There are many restaurants around the lake♪ The honey… adds an extra layer of sweetness, it’s delicious!! It’s spilling all over the place, it’s spilling an incredible amount! It’s so rich! The ice cream is really soft, too!! It’s like a fluffy ice cream! Can you tell? That face just now was priceless!! Masa’s laugh was insane!! Filming ice cream in the summer is hard! lol You have to eat it fast before it melts! Delicious! The honey goes so well with it!! It’s so soft! It’s just really soft ice cream! The lemon squash and other things looked delicious too! They had coffee floats, too! For about 100 years, this traditional inn has been loved by many cultural figures and historical greats. A venerable hot spring inn!! Located at an altitude of 1,200m in the highlands, it’s surrounded by the beautiful nature of the four seasons, boasting a charming location! In addition to its free-flowing hot spring water, the inn has a collection of 30,000 books. After relaxing in the onsen, you can enjoy reading in this exquisite healing space! Wow! Beautiful! There are really cute pictures decorating the walls! Or is it wallpaper? The greenery outside looks so beautiful! You can see the river, too! What a great view!! I found a really interesting book. A book called “Osamu Dazai Studies”! Osamu Dazai came here for his honeymoon, right? Oh, really? You didn’t know?! I had no idea! It was a favorite lodging for many cultural figures. The lobby had so many books, too! There were tons of them! It’s a paradise for book lovers♪ Dinner is in a private room! It’s nice to be able to eat in a private room! It’s a completely private room! The food looks unique! “Wa-French” (Japanese-French fusion) using an abundance of Shinshu’s mountain ingredients. The menu is a postcard, how cute!! First, I’ll have it cold as it is! Wow, the flavor is so rich! The corn… They said to try it as is first! Yeah! It’s delicious!! When you warm it up, the Omar lobster jelly melts and the taste changes! It’s pretty sweet! Delicious!! It’s become milder! The flavor! Before, it was like 100% corn! 🌽🌽🌽 But now, there’s a bit of shrimp… 🌽🌽🦐 🌽🌽🦐🌽🌽🦐 🌽🌽🦐🌽🌽🦐 🌽🌽🦐 The warm version is delicious too! With the change in flavor, I could eat this forever! Huh!? What’s this, corn? It’s corn, um… Some kind of, something… It’s like solidified corn! What is it? What would you call this? It was a corn castella cake!! Delicious!! Oyaki & wild boar croquette. Highland vegetable tomato stew. Shinshu beef steak. Soup curry is unusual, isn’t it? I was expecting something like soba noodles! I’m happy to get curry contrary to my expectations!! Well, I would have been happy with soba too!! Let’s eat! There are quite a few vegetables in it too! There’s a quail egg! That’s rare! Delicious!! It’s not too spicy! Maybe because it’s the last course. It’s mild and delicious! Delicious! They said we can get refills of this! They said we can get refills of both (the rice and curry)! I want a refill, but if I get one now, I’ll get too full! This curry is really good. Yeah, it’s delicious! For dessert, Mineoka-dofu made with Yatsugatake milk. You can reserve the private bath when you check in! Let’s eat!! What a huge variety! Yeah, it’s amazing! I really don’t know where to start! I was so happy they had a salad bar! It’s rare, isn’t it? We haven’t seen one recently. Okay, I’ll start with the tofu! Ah, that looks delicious!! Yum! It’s incredibly smooth and creamy!! Yeah! It’s delicious! It has a rich tofu flavor. Soybean? It tastes like soybeans! You know how some tofu has a very strong soybean flavor? It feels like that. Delicious! There are really so many side dishes, I can’t decide. Dried Iwana (char) from last night? I’ve never heard of that! You grill it yourself! The semi-dried Iwana! I warmed it up myself! Yeah! Yeah! Delicious! Even semi-dried, it’s delicious!! It’s kind of sweet! When you grill it? Yeah. When you semi-dry an Iwana? Yeah, it’s delicious! It looks like there isn’t much meat, but there’s actually quite a bit! The rice is delicious too!! Today, we’re exploring the Venus Line♪ The road is surprisingly wide, so it’s easy to drive! It’s beautiful! The road surface is in good condition too! The weather isn’t very good! What a shame! We can’t see the Yatsugatake mountains. Like the Southern Yatsugatake or Mt. Senjogatake. I wonder if the weather will be bad all day?😭 Where to next? Next is… Next up is Lake Shirakaba! It’s an artificial lake with an area of about 36 hectares, and the lake surface elevation is 1,416m. The altitude is 1,700m! It’s that high? Right! We’ve come up this far already!! No wonder it’s so cool! It’s cool because it’s cloudy today, but it’s probably cool even when it’s sunny! Just like its name, there are birch trees!! (“Shirakaba” means white birch) There are many hotels around Lake Shirakaba! Here it is!! This is the quintessential Venus Line view! Wow, this is amazing! This is awesome!! Wow, so beautiful!! It really feels like you’re driving on top of the mountains! There’s nothing to block the view. Hey! There’s a cyclist! Amazing! Where could they be going? Incredible. After riding two chairlifts, we’ve arrived near the summit of Mt. Kurumayama! That was quick, wasn’t it♪ It was over in a flash. You can faintly see the chairlift and the parking lot. And Lake Shirakaba, too. We can see it just a little bit! Lake Shirakaba looks better from above! And since the summit is only about 3 minutes away, we’ll make the final push. Let’s do our best to climb it! As for the scenery, it’s foggy, but this is classic Kirigamine! Water vapor from Lake Suwa is cooled by the 1,000m difference in altitude, causing frequent fog! So that’s why. The wetlands here, are so beautiful, aren’t they!! Shall we head to the summit while enjoying the view? I’m sure we’ll be able to see it from the top too, so let’s enjoy it!! Beginning about 1.4 million years ago, Mt. Kurumayama was formed by volcanic activity and reigns as the highest peak of Kirigamine at 1,925m. From the 360-degree panoramic view, you can see the Yatsugatake Mountains, Mt. Fuji, the Northern Alps, and more! That ridgeline over there is beautiful, too! It’s gotten really sunny! I’m so glad it cleared up! I was worried about how it would turn out. Wow, it’s so beautiful! Amazing! Kirigamine is so vast! What areas does Kirigamine stretch across? A sudden pop quiz!! Kirigamine… spreads across Suwa City, Chino City, and Shimosuwa Town. So that’s it! It’s cleared up a little!! Next, we’ll head for “Kurumayama-kata”!! (Kurumayama Shoulder) The parking lot at Kurumayama-kata is almost full!! There’s a restaurant nearby♪ Founded in 1956, “Korobokkuru Hütte” is a legendary mountain hut perched in Kirigamine at an altitude of 1,820m. Their exquisite coffee, made with a syphon using spring water, and their famous borscht, with fall-off-the-bone tender meat, are the epitome of highland gourmet! Here is the borscht!! We got a really great table! Isn’t this view amazing?! It’s great! It cleared up! So happy to feel the summer highland atmosphere♪ Well then, I’ll have the famous borscht! Since it was a weekday, we only had to wait about 15 minutes to get in! Wow, this is amazing! It’s packed with meat!! Delicious!! It has a pleasant tartness, it’s so good!! There are lots of vegetables in it, too! This is what it’s all about! Is this the go-to thing at Kirigamine? This is it! Eating borscht while looking at this view is the best! And the bread! Isn’t this the first time we’ve gotten a seat so close to the front? This is our first time! Our timing was perfect! The bread is fluffy and delicious, too! I can smell the sesame! Let’s take a walk around Kurumayama-kata♪ You can see the Mt. Kurumayama Radar! The Nikkokisuge (daylilies) are blooming energetically!! Isn’t this incredibly beautiful? It is! Amazing! This is a summer highland! Mt. Kurumayama and the radar dome in the background are great, and the clouds, the blue sky, the daylilies… and even the Kobaikeiso (white hellebore) are blooming! You’re right! This is amazing!! The yellow of the daylilies and the white of the Kobaikeiso go so well together! Nice! This is the best!! The sun came out! This is definitely worth coming for!! I understand why it gets so crowded! Truly beautiful!! I could look at this forever♪ Since I’m wearing yellow, can I blend in with the daylilies? I think your yellow might be a bit too pale. Maybe… Can’t I blend in as a rare mutation? This is incredible! To think that with the Venus Line, you can get here by car! You can see the wetlands! Should we go over there, too? Yeah, let’s go check it out! A large parking lot with toilets! The Shine Muscat soft-serve ice cream was delicious! We’ve arrived at the Yashima Wetlands Visitor Center!! The Yashimagahara Wetlands are huge! Was it always this big? It’s been a while, so I’m surprised! I didn’t realize it was this large! Altitude: approx. 1,632m high-moor wetland, Area: approx. 43.2 ha When you see it from above, they say it looks like a heart! There are so many Kobaikeiso blooming! I wonder where the Nikkokisuge are blooming? They were blooming around the perimeter of the wetland! The radar dome on Mt. Kurumayama is visible all the way over there! To think that from there… we walked all this way! Well, we didn’t walk… We didn’t walk… We came by car, and it was quite a drive! The mountains are so beautiful!! Don’t you just love how they line up? It’s beautiful! Such summery clouds! Very summery! We might get caught in the rain later. So far, so good!! Ah, it’s so beautiful! So idyllic. Perfect weather!! We can see the Ougatou Hotel!! The altitude is 1,959m! We’ve arrived at our final destination, Utsukushigahara! What you see behind me is the roadside station! And behind that, you can also see the art museum! Altitude 2,000m! The highest roadside station in Japan! From here, we’ll walk just a little bit. About a 10-minute walk to Mt. Ushi-buse-yama🚶♀️ Let’s do our best!! Naru is getting a little tired… lol We’ve arrived at Mt. Ushi-buse-yama! It was a wooden path, but because I’m tired, I got tired! lol But isn’t it beautiful here? The Ougatou Hotel is towering over there, it looks so cool!! And the cows are so peaceful♪ It’s so spacious! *Technically 1,990m You can see the Utsukushi-no-to tower, too! You’re right! It’s very easy to spot! As the final destination, this is the perfect spot!! This was a real mountain drive! We really enjoyed the mountain drive♪ Is this the end of our trip? This is the end! Thank you for watching!!

Arigato – very beautiful area 🙏😊💫💛💫

Hello Naru and Masa
What a great Video again.
It started with the beautiful lake, in which the trees were reflected.
Then the incredibly beautiful waterfall.
The water that dripped through the moss. So beautiful.
Then the flowers on the hills und the fantastic view.
It is once again a very touching video. 🥹
I will dream again now.
Arigato gozaimasu

Till next time. Bye Jörg😊
