櫃石島から見る景色(前編)
This time, I went to Hitoishijima Island in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture. Hitotsuishijima is an island that the Great Seto Bridge crosses, and is the island closest to Okayama. This time I took the photo at the southern tip of the island. Hitotsuishijima is one of the islands that support the Great Seto Bridge, and the bridge piers are located on the island. Therefore, the island is connected to Honshu and Shikoku by roads, and the islanders can come and go freely. However, ordinary tourists are not allowed to get on and off the train freely to sightsee. The public must take a bus or boat to get to the island. There are regular bus services from Sakaide Station and Kojima Station. There doesn’t seem to be any regular boat service at the moment. The Great Seto Bridge is a bridge that connects Honshu (Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture) and Shikoku (Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture). It is a combined road and rail bridge with a total length of approximately 13.1 km. Combined railway and road bridges require complex and highly advanced technology. This is a very rare type of bridge even on a global scale. The Setouchi Triennale will be held in 2025. It is divided into three seasons: spring, summer, and autumn. Spring session: late March to early May Summer session: Mid-July to early September Autumn session: late September to early November For more information, please see the official website. Hitotsuishi Island is the main island that I visited last time,
Hiroshima, Yoshima, Ushijima, Teshima, Oteshima, etc. It is part of the Shiwaku Islands, which consist of 28 islands of various sizes. The Shiwaku Islands prospered through shipping and, in more recent times, quarrying. Hitotsuishi Island has a circumference of about 5.5 km. There is Hanamiyama, which is about 78 meters above sea level. The population seems to be around 150 people. There aren’t many visitors to the island, so it’s a great place to relax. The island in the picture is called Iwagurojima and is right next to Hitsuishijima. I would love to go to this island and take some photos someday. I managed to take a photo of a train
passing the Great Seto Bridge. The Seto Ohashi Bridge can carry everything from express trains to rapid trains and even freight trains. Trains with various functions come and go. The Anpanman Trolley also operates mainly on weekends, holidays, and during spring and summer holidays. This island is called Butojima. As its name suggests, this island can be reached on foot from Hitsuishijima Island. Until about 50 years ago,
the area was an inner bay. Apparently it was a yellowtail farm. There is said to be a shrine deep inside the mountain. A ship came nearby. The sea in front of here is Kojima Tourist Port and It is a route connecting the ports of the main island. This ship departed from the main island port, We are heading to Kojima Tourist Port. For the Kojima⇔Mainland route, the 20th of every month is a free fare day. This is what we are doing. (2025 fiscal year) In addition to this route Marugame – Ushijima – Main Island Marugame – Hiroshima – Oteshima – Teshima There are routes such as: You can tour the islands for free. I used it the last time I went to the main island. A boat was coming from the other side. The boat coming from the other side is a sightseeing boat for sightseeing around the Great Seto Bridge. The course of this ship is from Kojima Tourist Port With the Great Seto Bridge spanning Hitotsuishi Island and Iwaguro Island on your right We make a turn on the north shore of Yoshima and then pass directly under the Great Seto Bridge to return to port. In addition to this course, there are other options available from Kojima Tourist Port. “Seto Inland Sea Evening View and Mizushima Industrial Complex Night View Cruise” There is also the sunset over the Seto Inland Sea and the Great Seto Bridge. In addition, you can enjoy the night view of Mizushima Industrial Complex, one of Japan’s leading industrial areas. It’s a cruise that you can enjoy all at once from the sea. I also had the opportunity to board the ship once. I was able to enjoy a wonderful view that I can’t usually see. This is the end of this video. The next post will be about the view from Hitotsuishi Island (part 2). Thank you for watching.
