道の駅せせらぎの里こうら|限定地ビール&絶景ドライブ【湖東三山近く・滋賀S660ドライブ】
For this Michi-no-Eki (roadside station) trip, I’m heading to Shiga Prefecture. There are only six Michi-no-Eki left to visit in Shiga. Today’s journey starts from Ryuo Town. The first Michi-no-Eki was Kagami-no-Sato in Ryuo. And the next stop is… Agri Park Ryuo, also located in Ryuo Town. The crepes made with locally grown Ryuo strawberries were delicious. Leaving Ryuo Town, I headed to Higashiomi City next. This Michi-no-Eki is Oku Eigenji Keiryū-no-Sato. Here, the tea and konnyaku (yam cake) were really tasty. Then I visited Aito Margaret Station, also in Higashiomi City. The Western-style building here looked beautiful. And the Shamo chicken rice was incredibly good. Next, it’s time for the last Michi-no-Eki of the day. I’m heading to Seseragi-no-Sato Kora in Kora Town. Let’s get going. Driving north on Route 307. I’ve just left Aito Margaret Station. The next stop is the last Michi-no-Eki for today. Oops, I forgot the name. The next Michi-no-Eki is Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. This will be the last Michi-no-Eki of the day. I was able to visit all the Michi-no-Eki as planned. With the next trip, I’ll have visited five stations. But on the other hand… It’s hard to make time for sightseeing. If I focus on visiting Michi-no-Eki, sightseeing gets tough. If I do sightseeing, I can’t visit as many Michi-no-Eki. It’s a bit frustrating. I think the best Michi-no-Eki trips include some sightseeing, too. Next time, I want to plan a trip where sightseeing is the main focus. I’ll think about it after I’ve finished visiting all the Michi-no-Eki in the Kinki region. You can’t really discover the charm of a Michi-no-Eki by just visiting once. The next Michi-no-Eki isn’t far from here. It only takes about 20 minutes to reach the next station. Once I get there, there will only be one Michi-no-Eki left in Shiga. Just as I mentioned at the start of today’s trip… Ai-no-Tsuchiyama, one of the stations, is currently being renovated. It’s closed for now. Even if I visit, I can’t buy anything there at the moment… I’ve actually stopped by there before, but it was right before closing and I couldn’t fully enjoy it. So, I’ve been meaning to visit again. But it looks like I won’t be able to go for a while… I’ll wait until it reopens after the renovations. So the next Michi-no-Eki in Shiga will be the last one. Right now, I’m on my way to Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. The previous Michi-no-Eki was in Higashiomi City, but today, I’m heading to the one in Kora Town. Kora Town is known for producing many notable historical figures. For example, in the Sengoku period, there was Tōdō Takatora, a famous castle builder. Tōdō Takatora was actually born here in Kora Town. He helped build many famous castles, such as Kumamoto Castle and Nijo Castle. There’s also another notable person. Kora Bungonokami Munenobu, a master carpenter from the Edo period, led the major reconstruction of Nikko Toshogu Shrine. He was also from Kora Town. Kora is also home to Saimyoji, one of the three famous Koto Sanzan temples. The temple’s main hall and three-story pagoda are both designated National Treasures. The “Koto Sanzan” refers to three Tendai-sect temples in the Koto region of Shiga Prefecture: Saimyoji, Kongorinji, and Hyakusaiji. They’re also known as one of Japan’s top 100 autumn foliage spots. If you visit in fall, you can enjoy beautiful autumn leaves. I’ll continue heading north on Route 307. Now entering Aisho Town. You can see the Meishin Expressway on the right. From here, we’re entering Kora Town again. There’s some road construction going on… I can see the sign for the next Michi-no-Eki. The next roadside station is Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. You can see Saimyoji Temple on the right. We’re about to arrive at Michi-no-Eki Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. I wonder if it’s a little off the main road? This Michi-no-Eki is located in an area with quite a bit of traffic. I can see Seseragi-no-Sato Kora up ahead. It looks like a pretty spacious roadside station. We’ve arrived at Michi-no-Eki Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. I bought a crepe. How am I supposed to eat this? It’s hard to eat all at once… I used to think all crepes tasted the same, but this one tastes totally different from the crepe I had at Agri Park Ryuo. Let me show you what I bought at Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. You can’t see inside because it’s packed for protection… But it’s a beer made by Seseragi-no-Sato Kora and a sake brewery in Hikone. It’s called Hikone Beer. There are about three different types of this beer. If I drink the beer now, I won’t be able to drive home, so I’ll enjoy it after I get back. Next, I bought their original pudding. This is UNO pudding. It’s an original pudding made at Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. That’s why I decided to buy it. But since I’m already full, I’ll eat it after I get home. I’ll save it until I get home since I’m full. These are what I picked up at Seseragi-no-Sato Kora. This is their original craft beer. It’s a local beer co-developed with Hikone Beer. Let’s give this beer a try. They had three types available. I bought the Kora Black Bean Pale Ale. Here’s what the beer looks like. It looks really delicious. The bitterness is mild, so even if you’re not a fan of bitter beer, you’ll probably enjoy it. After you take a sip, you can really taste the aroma of black beans. Each craft beer has its own unique flavor, so trying local beer is a must whenever you travel. Seseragi-no-Sato Kora offers three different kinds of beer, so if you like beer, definitely give them a try. Next up is the pudding. This pudding was labeled as a Michi-no-Eki original. When you see something limited like this, you just have to buy it. It’s UNO pudding. Let’s try the pudding as well. This pudding is pretty firm on the surface. It’s a solid, dense type of pudding. You can see how firm it is. I accidentally dropped it, but let’s eat the pudding anyway. It’s not the soft type—it’s a firm-style pudding. If you like baked-style puddings, you’ll probably really enjoy this one. The sweetness of the pudding and the bitterness of the caramel are perfectly balanced. It’s really delicious. If you love pudding, I recommend trying this original pudding. This was the last Michi-no-Eki on today’s trip. That’s it for today—I’m heading home now. With this, my tour of Shiga’s Michi-no-Eki is almost complete. Now there’s just one station left, but it’s actually in two different prefectures… Well, it can’t be helped. I’ll keep traveling and visiting more Michi-no-Eki whenever I get the chance. I’ve visited quite a few Michi-no-Eki so far. Each one has its own unique charm, so I never get tired of visiting them. Everyone probably has their own favorite Michi-no-Eki, but once I finish my Kinki region tour, I’d like to revisit some of my favorites. If I have time for my next trip, I’d love to visit some Michi-no-Eki in Fukui Prefecture. I’ve already visited about half of them in Fukui. It’s tough going back and forth from Osaka though… So if I can get a long enough break, I plan to visit more then.
