【瀬戸内国際芸術祭2025】小豆島2日間で巡るアート旅 | 春会期①

Today we are traveling around the world to see contemporary art. This time we are going to the Setouchi Triennale. Good morning. Today we are starting from Takamatsu Station in Kagawa Prefecture. This time we will participate in the Setouchi Triennale, which started the other day. The Setouchi Triennale is an international contemporary art festival held on the islands of the Setouchi Association, and this year marks its 6th anniversary. A pass is required to view the artworks, and seasonal passes and passports for each event are also available. Today we are going to Kojima, so we will take the 1:02 ferry bound for Kojima Todensho. This time we purchased a ticket for unlimited ferry rides for 3 days. The ticket costs 2,600 yen and can be purchased from the official app. There are many eligible routes, so this is a great deal for those who want to see the artworks on the island. Udon is a specialty of Kagawa Prefecture, and in 2018, the Pokemon character Yadon was chosen as the udon PR team because of its similar sound to udon. By the way, this ferry is covered with Yadons and is super cute. The ferry has an observation deck where you can enjoy the view of Uchikai . We arrived at Todono Shoko, about an hour by ferry from Takamatsu Port. Today we will mainly tour the western area of Shono, and since the weather looks bad all day, we will tour by bus. This ticket can also be purchased from the official app. Proof of this is that we came to a bus stop nearby. All 6 routes that run through Higashiuchi and the Setouchi Game Bus West Route and East Route are available for unlimited rides. First, we head to Tosho Honmachi. If the weather is good, we recommend going by bicycle. We arrive at Shohonmachi, a 5-minute bus ride away . I’m going to see my favorite work in the maze town. The maze town has a Yokai Art Museum with over 800 monsters from all over the world. As I got lost in the maze town, I saw the work. This is the first time in three years that I’ve been to Seto Game. It’s a timeless space created by the Japanese contemporary art activity team, Jiura Space. They salvaged a house in the maze town and extended the white exterior walls into the building to create a cave-like, aerobic passageway. In the white space, some things remain, such as the pillars and balustrade windows of the house, and you can experience a different space that makes you feel nostalgic. By the way, it seems to be bigger than when I came here three years ago. It seems to have been expanded. The next work is nearby, so I’ll walk there. I’ve arrived. It seems that the work is located behind a soy sauce company near the old Tono Small Office. Nagasawa is Nobu’s sea vessel. It is made by weaving optical fiber. This work expresses dynamism with the boat that is submerged in water. If you listen carefully, you can hear the sound of the waves. You can lie down on this boat, and when you lie down, it feels like the light that changes slowly like a pulse is integrated with the heartbeat. I just returned to the Furita bus stop. There was a bus at just the right time to go to see the works in the Ilsan Nakayama area. As I was heading towards the mountain, something eye-catching suddenly appeared. I got off the bus and walked towards the blue flag. It was quite large even from this distance. I walked through a landscape that seemed to be a field. Since the mountain is close, there is a fence to prevent damage by super beasts. It is not a roadblock, so I opened it and closed it properly before passing through. I came across a road made of bamboo. This work is Baoyong Island by Wang Benchi. The artist, Wang Benchi, is a 3-year-old man. He said that when he visited the island for the first time in years, he felt as if the island had embraced him from both places, and created this work with the hope that people from all over the world would be able to reach the island. It ‘s amazing, look at this view of the mountains. It’s all made of bamboo. It was raining a lot today, but on a sunny day, the sunlight shining through the gaps in the bamboo would be absolutely beautiful , so I’d like to see it. It’s slippery on rainy days, so I’ll be careful as I go down. It was amazing to see such a work made of just one bamboo. Just beyond the exit, there was a sign for the next work. I walked straight for about 10 minutes. This Comica seems to be the venue for the work. I walked towards the sound, and there it was. The work of Makoto and the Musical Water Project remains strong. There used to be a lot of water here in Nakayama, and the artist’s hometown used waterwheels to create wind and heat. The waterwheels are no longer there, but he created a work to play music using tools and farm implements used in production and life on the stage of Akihabara, where he lived. Here, you can actually play instruments made from farm implements. We will walk to the next work. There are many signs so it seems that we will not get lost. We passed through the mountains and came out into town. It was about 2km from Wang Wen Chi’s bamboo work. We have almost reached the work. We have arrived. It seems that the work is located in this warehouse in Nongjing. It is Toyofuku Ryo’s Ship Disappeared in the Yellow Sea, which I thoroughly enjoyed at last year’s 3rd Art Festival. If you have a passport, you can of course view the work for free, but if you pay 500 yen, you can actually see and touch it on the boat. Of course, you will be charged. You probably won’t be able to paint it, but you can get a book. Please come as far as you can. The person who is pushing the gajitori against the wall will ask you to make a loss or listen to it. In that case, please actually touch the work. Thank you. Have a nice day . It’s true, there are lots of dogs. We will board a boat on a wall chased by a golden dish and shells such as oysters. The experience added to this made it a very memorable work. Right next to Toyofuku Ryo’s work. Tokibashi bus stop. From here, we head to Ikeda. This time, we boarded the Seto Game Bus for the first time and arrived at the Ikeda school. From here, we changed buses to go see the artworks on the Mito Peninsula . The driver of this bus was very hospitable, and even though it was a local bus, he stopped at some artworks along the way to let us take photos. There were some artworks that I had given up on, such as this Daidara Ultrabo, so I am really grateful that I was able to see them. The last stop on the Mito West Line is this Urani Nishi, and it takes about 30 minutes to see the artworks around here, otherwise we won’t be able to get back to the port by 5 o’clock. We have to hurry. This is Daisuke Omi’s work, the Inn. The sculpture of the Inn, about 2m tall, that lives in Akiya, is made of camphor wood. It is said to be derived from the Inn, which appears as the origin of human life in the creation myth of Ikusa and Ryukyu, which mean people who are opposed to each other like Kusa. There are 12 minutes left until the bus departs. We walk a little and go to see the indoor artworks. This is the indoor artwork. We follow the directions to the entrance. This is Keisuke Tanaka’s work, Utopia Dungeon A Tale of Time. This work is characterized by a large human twisted around a pillar. In fact, it will be exhibited from the 2019 and 2022 art festivals. It is a vine story. It depicts the story of people who have been cut out of nature and walked the path as fragments, and then escape to the whole after completing the story of one act. It is a work that makes you feel a very deep message and makes you think. I was admiring the beautiful scenery, but there were only 2 minutes left. I ran to see the work. It is a work by Eriko Yano. This work presents the idea that not being able to do something is a negative thing, but that you can do something differently. We, the interveners, can enjoy the elements of maneuverability from various perspectives. The rain has gotten quite strong, so today I will return to Takamatsu from Ikeda Port. It will take about an hour from Ikeda Port to arrive at Takamatsu Port. Since I have time, I will look at the Seto Game official goods in the terminal beer at Takamatsu Port before returning to the hotel. The main visual of this time was also very cute, and the goods such as badges, stickers, and T-shirts seemed to be very popular. This time, T I bought a shirt and a badge. I also recommend the fragrance that was added to the official goods from this Seto Game. Good morning. It’s the second day of Doshima. Yesterday was a scorching day, but today it’s forecast to be sunny, so it looks like we ‘ll be able to enjoy the outdoor works. Today I’m going to see the works on the east side of Doshima, so I’m taking the ferry to Ikeda School. I used the unlimited ride ticket again this time. I haven’t had breakfast yet, so I’m going to eat at the shop in Sennai. As expected of Kagawa Prefecture, you can enjoy this many types of udon on the ferry. Today I had Tsukimi Udon. The udon had a firm texture and was very delicious. The price was also quite reasonable at 470 yen, so I recommend having breakfast here. I also drank it all up with a gentle flavor. It was a feast. After filling my stomach and enjoying the view outside, I could see Sido Island in no time. The weather has gotten much better compared to before we left. We’ve arrived, Ikeda. Today we’ll start from here. Since the weather is good today, I’m going to go diving by bicycle. I used the shared bicycle Hello Cycling that was in the pond. 25 in Higashiuchi. There are ports in the area, so you can drop it off at any time. The fee is 200 yen for 15 minutes, and if you stay for less than 12 hours, it’s 2,000 yen. First, we headed to Kusaka. It was an 8km ride one way, but we were using electric bicycles. But it was totally fine. Above all, it was a luxurious experience to ride along the sea. If you’re on a bicycle, it’s over in no time. We arrived at Kusakabe Port. We looked at the sea on the way, but we arrived in about 40 minutes. We immediately went to see the work near the port. It is a work by Kido Risuke. The shapes of cells and viruses are carved into the wooden wire used by the Setouchi Association as Heaven, creating countless voids. The voids symbolize the circulation of air and light that has stopped while losing their physical semantic structure and function, and the regaining of breath again. We arrived at the Shio no Sato area, 2km from the port . We invited French photographer Georges Rousse to a private house in Nishio no Sato and Keralie was born . Georges Rousse is known for creating works in buildings scheduled for demolition. Usually, his installations disappear along with the production site, but this is an exception. It has been left as it is in the gallery. This gallery has a special exhibition that is unlike any other in the world. I came to the Hira Cafe attached to the gallery. In addition to drinks, they also sell lunch sets such as ga and hot dogs. I ordered a Kinki iced coffee for 400 yen, which blew away the fatigue of the bicycle. It was delicious coffee, a treat! After cooling down at the cafe, I took a 25-minute bicycle ride to the Sakate area. Welcoming us on the Sakate bus is Kenji Yabe’s work Star Anger. It spins like a mirror ball. The creatures on top of it are said to represent the anger of the earth being destroyed by civilization. There seems to be a work on the Sakate Woot Terminal Reverse Terrace, so I’ll go in. When I went inside, there was an illustration that looked like a work. It seems that the work is on the roof. There it is, Journey of Ships. It’s a cat. This cat is from a series that was created as a guardian deity for travel, carrying clothes , and is made to look like he is about to jump onto a ship from this rooftop. In fact, there is also a work on top of the Jumbo Ferry that connects Kobe and the other side, and if you’re lucky, you can see both at the same time. It seems that there is another work by Kenji Yabe a little further up the hill, so I’ll go and check it out. We’ve arrived. This is Beat Shrine. In fact, this work is a collaboration with Beat Takeshi. The Hanger from the Bottom expresses anger towards the environment, and it’s old and sticks out. It’s about 8m high, so it’s quite impressive when you see it up close. It looks pretty scary at night. About 6km from Sakate, we head to the work at 20 Shi no Hitomi Movie Village. No, I ‘m getting tired. He’s run about 15km. While running along the coastline, we discovered a cafe with a great atmosphere. We’ll take a short break here. The owner is really nice and said I could come down to the terrace and play while he was making the food, so I was able to relax a bit. I ordered a crepe and a four-ganic jasmine tea, and all my fatigue disappeared. It was a feast! From the cafe, we headed to the Nijishi no Hitomi Movie Village, about 2km away. This area is all along the coastline, so I really recommend going by bicycle. We arrived at the Nijishi no Hitomi Movie Village in the Hau area. This is a bollard by Shimizu Hisashi, located right next to the movie village. It is an objet d’art with a pillar motif to facilitate the navigation of huge ships. It is a work that uses the surrounding scenery and connects and stops people’s consciousness while inspiring their imagination towards the sea. Its unique presence seems to make it a popular photo spot. We’ve traveled quite a distance, but we’ve returned to the Nishio no Sato area. We ‘ve ridden about 8km in silence and have already covered 30km. Finally, I saw a blue flag approaching . By the way, you can’t park your car near this piece. Be careful, as there were people having trouble on the slow roads. There seems to be a parking lot nearby. This is an olive pompadour by Shimizu Hisashi, the same artist as the Love Bollard at the Movie Village. It’s a cute piece that looks like a human head with a pompadour. The face is shaped like an olive, a specialty of Ikushima, and it stands in an olive field. By the way, the olive harvest season is from October to November. Small flowers were blooming now. It’s about 13km from Hiori. It’s quite far to Fukuda School by bicycle, so I took a local bus on the southbound Fukuda Line. I didn’t buy a bus unlimited pass today, so I paid with my SUica. It was 300 yen. It took about 30 minutes by bus to get to the Fukuda School area. It was a 5 minute walk from the bus stop. There are artworks about 10 minutes away, so I walked along the signs. I arrived and it seems this is the venue. This is the Setouchi Asia Gallery, and it seems that artists from all over Asia are gathering in the area of the former Fukuda Elementary School . I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of artworks there are. I was given a floor map at the entrance. It seems that the artworks are on the second floor. There are also many illustrations on the corridor. If you look closely, there is a story that matches the location, which is cute. I went up the stairs and found the Asia Gallery. It seems that artists from six countries are participating in this project. There are many art pieces on display here that lend the invisible dynamics of the ideological society that is being lost in modernized Asia. This art, which uses old clothes collected from local people, is colorful and unique, and can be enjoyed both as a whole and as individual pieces . There are works using various materials such as eagle and banana fibers as a sustainable form of expression , and ha-ga created by an art group of about 10 people who share a DIY spirit. The traditional Japa There were many works that evoked things forgotten in Asia, such as works wearing dance costumes, so I went to see the work in the gymnasium of the elementary school. It is the Suita Pavilion by Nishizawa Ryu. The latter half of the two curved panels is used as a place for worshippers to sit and rest, and as a play area for children. It feels a little narrow when adults go inside, but it feels like a secret base and it is a relaxing space. Since I could see the work, I came to Mori Terrace, a cafe in the school. The menu looks like this. It is mainly drinks and meals such as scones and bread. The gymnasium next door has Fukuda Asia Shokudo, and it looks like you can eat quite a lot. I ordered coffee and scones. Today’s coffee and scones at Kodoshima closing were definitely different. It was a feast. Thank you for watching. The next Setouchi Triennale will be in Naoshima, an island where pumpkins watch over the sea and gather with hearts from all over the world. 2.
