「瓜割の滝（うりわりのたき）」は、日本の福井県三方上中郡若狭町にある名瀑で、その清らかな水と自然美から「名水百選」にも選ばれています。

「瓜割」という名前は、「冷たく清らかな水があまりに冷たいために、置いておいた瓜（うり）が割れるほど」という言い伝えに由来します。
湧き水は、地元では飲用水や料理に使われており、「瓜割の名水」としても親しまれています。

開山と霊験：瓜割の滝は、718年（養老2年）に泰澄大師が開いた天徳寺の境内にあります。泰澄が宝篋ヶ嶽の山腹に馬頭観音像を刻んで安置した際、八大龍王が現れ、天地が鳴動し、岩の裂け目から神水が湧き出したと伝えられています。この霊験により、滝の水は「駒清水」とも呼ばれ、五穀豊穣や諸病退散の霊験があると信じられてきました。

修行と祈祷の場：滝周辺は「水の森」と呼ばれ、修験者の修行地として利用されてきました。また、朝廷の雨乞いを司る祈祷所としても知られ、旱魃時には地域の人々が雨乞いの祈祷を行っていた記録があります。

水神信仰と地主神：この地には古くから水源の水神信仰があり、天徳寺の本堂の隣には岩上神社があり、もとはこちらが地主神だったとされています。

名水百選と日本遺産：1985年（昭和60年）に環境省の「名水百選」に選定され、2015年（平成27年）には「海と都をつなぐ若狭の往来文化遺産群」の構成文化財として日本遺産に認定されました。

自然の美と生態系：滝の水温は年間を通じて約11.7℃と冷たく、清らかな水が流れています。また、水中には紅藻植物のベニマダラが繁殖しており、福井県内で最大の繁殖地とされています。

🧘 Spiritual and Historical Importance
Uriwari Falls is located within the grounds of Tentoku-ji Temple, which dates back to the 8th century and was founded by Taichō, a revered Buddhist monk.

According to legend, when Taichō carved a statue of Batō Kannon (a Buddhist deity) on a nearby mountain, the earth split open and this sacred water began to flow.

The area became a place of mountain ascetic training for monks, and locals have long visited to pray for rain, good harvests, and healing.

By Train: About 15 minutes on foot from JR Kaminaka Station (小浜線).

By Car: Approximately 15 minutes from the Wakasa-Kaminaka IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway.
