This time, let’s walk around “Zuiryuji Temple” in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture ☺️ First, pay the admission fee at the reception in front of the main gate. The price is 500 yen per adult.At the reception desk, you will receive a pamphlet and an illustrated map.Going through the main gate at the entrance to Zuiryu-ji Temple, a straight approach path paved with white gravel leads to the back, with lights on both sides. The lanterns used for the event are lined up in rows. At the end of the approach is the Sanmon Gate. At the Sanmon gate, there are two Kongo Rikishi statues, an Ungyo statue on the left, and an Agyo statue on the right . Once you pass through the Sanmon Gate, you will see a straight path to the shrine.The beautiful lawn spreads out and the greenery will gently soothe your soul. The bright lights create a dreamlike atmosphere that beautifully colors even the morning hours.In front of the approach, there is a splendid Buddhist temple.It is one of the buildings designated as a national treasure, and has a dignified appearance.Today , instead of going inside, we turn from the left and head towards the Hatto.The Buddhist hall is also designated as a national treasure, and is enveloped in silence and solemnity.As you enter inside, you will feel calm in the quiet space.This time, let’s proceed counterclockwise.This building The hall is entirely made of cypress and has a roof covered with copper plates. Inside the hall is enshrined a large memorial tablet of Toshinaga Maeda, the second lord of the Kaga domain. As you walk forward looking out at the courtyard from the window, the next thing you will see is a plaster wall. Wall renovation work and the “Zendo” This is a building where monks in training practice zazen.Let ‘s briefly summarize the history of Zuiryuji Temple.Toshinaga Maeda, the second lord of the Kaga domain, built Takaoka Castle and died in Takaoka.After that, 3 Toshitsune Maeda, the current lord of the domain, renamed Hoenji Temple, which was originally there as a memorial service for Toshinaga, to “Zuiryuji Temple” and made it into a family temple where his ashes were to be kept. Walking along the corridor, we passed “Idaten.” A fast-footed Buddha. Known as the guardian deity of the religion, it is loved by people who pray for quick action and good health.Next is the Daikuri kitchen, where the monks prepare their meals . It’s a fun area to walk around in.As you walk through the grounds, you’ll see small temples and stone Buddhas scattered about.The most popular Buddha statue is “Nadehotoke”. If you stroke a bad part of your body, that part will heal. It is said that each building has a history and there are many things to see within the temple grounds. Passing through the Dharma Hall, we go around the Sekibyo. The Sekibyo is the grave of Toshinaga Maeda, and it stands quietly on a large site. I feel like I can really feel the feelings of the Maeda family.Out of gratitude and respect for the second lord, Toshinaga, the third lord of the domain, Toshitsune, decided to greatly improve Zuiryu-ji Temple.To coincide with the 33rd anniversary of Toshinaga’s death, he decided to build a spacious grave and a splendid grave. Zuiryu-ji Temple took about 20 years to build, starting with the construction work to create a new temple.The “garan” refers to the area where the important buildings of the temple were gathered.The main garan of Zuiryu-ji Temple was built in the mid-17th century, and attached parts such as corridors Completed in the middle of the Edo period, it still remains as a beautiful Zen Buddhist temple designated as a national treasure and important cultural property . From the main hall, enter the courtyard and pass through the main gate to return to the entrance. Zuiryuji Temple, located in the center of Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, has a quiet and calm atmosphere. A wonderful place where you can take a leisurely stroll while feeling the history, architecture, and beauty of nature .
