Takamori Sky Observatory
Takamori Town, Aso District Description of Takamori Sky Observatory. Route 265 is the easternmost national highway that runs from the north side of Aso (Aso Valley) to the south side (Nango Valley). Along the national highway are Tsukimawari Park and Camel Mountain, which we previously introduced and which have been selected as having the best views in the prefecture. This time, we will introduce the nearby Takamori Sky Observatory. The observation deck is located southeast of the mountain behind the accommodation facility “Vacation Village Minamiaso” (the outer rim of Mt. Aso) along National Route 265. As the sign at the observatory clearly states, “Takamori Cyclist’s Sanctuary”, it is a place to climb by bicycle, motorbike, or on foot. Generally, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes by bicycle to get there from the vacation village. The observation point, located at an altitude of 890m, had received high ratings on Google Maps, so we decided to drive up the mountain path, which is difficult to pass by other vehicles. The view was decent, but it may not have been as impressive as the view you get when you climb up the mountain by bicycle or other means. Today, I am at Takamori Sky Observatory in Takamori Town, Aso District. I would like to introduce you to an observation point that is known as a “holy land for cyclists.” This seems to be a place to visit by bicycle or motorbike, so visiting by car is not recommended.
