【ふふ奈良】古都に佇む自然と歴史に癒される宿
This time, I will introduce “Fufu Nara.” I really liked ‘Fufu Kawaguchiko’ where I stayed before, so I chose it as my place to stay in Nara. The location is within the grounds of Nara Park, blending in with the streetscape of Nara. All rooms are suites surrounded by trees. Each room has a unique layout and is equipped with a natural hot spring open-air bath. The building was designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma. Wood is used extensively. The lobby lounge has a chic and stately atmosphere. Next to the lounge is an elevator leading to the second floor. There are 30 rooms on the first and second floors, as well as a Japanese garden and restaurant outside the building. The hotel is designed with privacy in mind, so I hardly saw any other guests. Next to the lounge is a souvenir shop. You can purchase Nara prefecture specialties and original products. At the back of the lounge is the “BAR Ren” Business hours are from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This place also has a mature atmosphere with a sense of grandeur. Check-in while enjoying some rice candy. Let’s head to my room. The rooms are arranged around the courtyard. Today, I will be staying in a stylish suite. At the end of the hallway, you can see the open-air bath and bamboo grove. The entrance hall is filled with the pleasant scent of smoked wood chips. Next to the door is a privacy-conscious box. Here you can pick up additional towels and glasses. There is a toilet right next to the entrance. Next, let’s take a look around the room. There is a tatami mat area one step down from the wooden floor, and an L-shaped sofa. The fabric material and the firmness of the cushions were just right. The side table has an internal telephone and writing utensils. There is a bar counter at the front of the room. Drinks with tags are charged separately, while others are included in the room rate. Drip coffee and green tea packs. Original deer mochi and cold-brewed sencha tea will be served later. At the bottom, there is an electric kettle and two cups and glasses. Beer, sparkling water, water, plum juice, cold-brewed sencha tea, and champagne (for an additional charge) behind the sencha tea. Next is the bedroom. The two beds can be combined to make a Hollywood twin bed. Now, let’s go out to the terrace. There is a spacious open-air bath, and you can enjoy a footbath in the space on the right. The water is transported from a famous hot spring in Nara and kept at 42 degrees Celsius through a circulation system. The view from the bath is of a bamboo grove, which is very reminiscent of an ancient city. There is a couch sofa next to the open-air bath. It is accessible from both the living room and the shower booth. The lighting switches are also stylish. Next, let’s take a look at the closet area. Open the door next to the luggage storage space to find the closet.

This haori jacket is well-made and has two convenient pockets. This drawstring bag is useful when going to restaurants or other places. This is a charger. A blanket for cold weather. Bathrobe, yukata, and tabi socks Safety deposit box also available Next, let’s take a look at the washroom Waterproof TV and magnifying mirror Amenities Everything you need is provided. The hair dryer is a Panasonic. The tube contains a toothbrush set. What’s in this box? It contains Japanese and Chinese bath salts. I’ll try them in the open-air bath later. There are plenty of towels, and more can be provided. Having looked around, I’m looking forward to enjoying the hot springs I’ve been longing for. The water is very smooth and gentle, perfect for a relaxing soak. Bathing while gazing at the bamboo forest is very charming. It’s so quiet that you wouldn’t think you’re in the middle of town. It’s beautiful in the afternoon sun. I’m enjoying a beer from the refrigerator on the terrace. It’s a moment of pure bliss. After a short break, I take a stroll in the garden. The path is well maintained and has handrails, so it’s safe. It’s a magnificent Japanese garden that doesn’t look like it belongs to a ryokan. The building in front is the restaurant. The restaurant and café are also open to the general public. The hotel also offers a spa (additional charge) and private medicinal baths are available. It’s time for dinner. We’re heading to the restaurant we mentioned earlier. We were shown to a private counter on the second floor with a view of the garden. I’m looking forward to seeing what delicious things we’ll get to eat. We ordered wine pairings to accompany our meal. The meal seems to feature dishes that evoke the history of Nara. We started with this tea. It looks different, but it has a refreshing taste without any peculiar flavor. The first wine pairing is Bollinger Special Cuvée. The cherry sea bream has a sweet flavor and a fluffy texture. It is served with Tosa soy sauce and Japanese vinegar. It goes very well with the second glass of Riesling. Next is the assortment platter, which is nice because you can try a little bit of everything. The third pairing is Kenzo Estate Asatsuyu. Each dish is carefully prepared, which makes the sake go down smoothly. Enjoy with Japanese and Chinese seven-spice seasoning, if desired. Pair the pork with an Italian red wine. Yamato pork is very tender and the flavor of the pork spreads in your mouth. Enjoy it with sansho ponzu sauce. The balance between lean meat and marbling is just right, and the meat has a sweet flavor that is delicious. Served with red miso soup and pickles. I was full, but it was so delicious that I had seconds. I enjoyed the aftertaste of the meal with dessert wine. Thank you for the meal! It was raining, so even though it was close, we had a ride home. Before returning to our room, we took a look around the hotel at night. The nighttime bar has a very nice atmosphere. The hot spring is especially wonderful when you’re a little tipsy. After the bath, I enjoy a midnight tea time with original deer-shaped sweets. I spend the rest of the evening relaxing in the comfortable living room until bedtime. Good morning, it’s the second day. First, we start the day with our usual morning bath. The water is so nice that I could stay in forever. I’m heading to the restaurant for breakfast. We were shown to a private counter on the first floor. Breakfast at a ryokan is always exciting, isn’t it? Breakfast also features an abundance of carefully selected ingredients from Nara. We wait for our meal while enjoying the view of the garden. We start with Miwa somen, a specialty of Nara. The refreshing taste is perfect for the first dish.

Next is a small plate assortment. Everything is delicately seasoned and delicious. The rice is shiny and fluffy. This is also a local dish of Nara. You can really taste the flavor of the rice, and it’s delicious even on its own. The meat is thick and satisfying, and it’s absolutely delicious. Is the hot pot ready to eat? I’ll have it sukiyaki-style with a raw egg. Melon for dessert. It was sweet and perfectly ripe. The breakfast was very satisfying in both quality and quantity. Thank you for the meal. It was sunny, so I walked back (transportation is available upon request). Enjoying the hot springs Spending time in the living room reading a book until check-out The room, meals, and service were all top-notch. I’d like to visit another Fufu soon. Thank you for watching until the end.
