Untold Truth of Kailash Outer and Inner Kora | Complete Guide 2025
The Untold Truth of Kailash Outer and Inner Kora | Complete Guide 2025, Mount Kailash, the holiest and most mysterious peak in the world, continues to be an enigma for pilgrims and adventurers alike. Known as the abode of Lord Shiva, this sacred peak is 6,638 meters (21,778 ft) tall and is revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers. Despite its spiritual significance, no human has ever been able to summit it, adding to its mystical aura.
Kailash Outer Kora – The Sacred Circumambulation
The Kailash Outer Kora is a 52-kilometer-long pilgrimage route that circles the divine peak. Considered one of the toughest yet most spiritually rewarding treks, it takes three days to complete for most travelers. The journey begins at Darchen, passing through Dirapuk Monastery (4,950m) and the highest point, Dolma La Pass (5,630m), before concluding at Zuthulpuk Monastery. This Kora symbolizes the path of purification, with pilgrims believing that a single circumambulation washes away a lifetime of sins while completing 108 Koras grants enlightenment.
Kailash Inner Kora – The Ultimate Spiritual Challenge
Unlike the Outer Kora, the Inner Kora is an even more demanding and lesser-known pilgrimage. It includes sacred sites such as Charan Sparsh, Kuber Kund, Atmalingam, Saptarishi Caves, and the challenging Nandi Kora. The trek requires navigating treacherous paths, climbing near-vertical rock faces, and traversing sacred but dangerous terrains. It is believed that only those who complete 13 Outer Koras earn the right to embark on this sacred Inner Kora, which brings one closer to Mount Kailash’s divine presence.
Mansarovar Yatra – The Sacred Lake of Purity
No Kailash pilgrimage is complete without visiting Lake Mansarovar, located at 4,590 meters above sea level. This pure and holy freshwater lake is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma and is often visited before or after the Kailash Kora. Pilgrims take a holy dip in its icy waters, believing it cleanses the soul and helps attain Moksha (liberation). The Mansarovar Parikrama (circumambulation) is another spiritual practice undertaken here, covering 88 kilometers around the lake.
