ピラオロ展望台 The Piraoro Observatory is in a very beautiful location
ピラオロ展望台は、北海道佐呂間町にあり、サロマ湖を一望できる絶景スポットです。
「ピラオロ」とは、アイヌ語で「がけのある所」を意味し、かつてアイヌの人々が魚群の見張りをしていた場所と伝えられています。 
展望台はコンクリート製の立派な施設で、屋上が展望スペースとなっており、ケンコーの双眼鏡も設置されています。
ここからは、サロマ湖や富武士港を眼下に望むことができ、特に夕日の美しさは格別です。 
また、ピラオロ展望台には「ピラオロ哀恋伝説」という悲しい恋の物語が伝わっています。
十勝アイヌと北見アイヌの争いの中、サンクルという若者を失った娘マチカが、毎日サンクルを想い続け、ついにはこの崖から湖に身を投じたとされています。
この伝説は、現在も訪れる人々の心を打ちます。 
アクセスは、佐呂間市街から車で約15分（約10km）と便利で、駐車場も完備されています。 
ピラオロ展望台は、サロマ湖の雄大な景色と歴史的背景を感じられる秘境的スポットです。

Piraoro Observatory is located in Saroma Town, Hokkaido, and is a scenic spot where you can get a panoramic view of Lake Saroma.
“Piraoro” means “a place with a cliff” in Ainu language, and it is said that the Ainu people used to watch for schools of fish. 
The observation deck is a fine concrete facility, with an observation space on the rooftop, where Kenko binoculars are also installed.
From here, you can see Lake Saroma and Tonoshima Port below, and the sunset is especially beautiful. 
The Piraoro Observatory is also home to a sad love story called the “Piraoro Airei Densetsu.”
During the conflict between the Tokachi Ainu and Kitami Ainu, a young girl named Machika lost a young man named Sankuru, and she thought of him every day, and eventually threw herself off the cliff into the lake.
This legend still touches the hearts of visitors today. 
It is conveniently located about 15 minutes (about 10km) by car from Saroma city, and there is also a parking lot. 
The Piraoro Observatory is a hidden spot where you can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Saroma and its historical background.
