Kebesu fire festival in Kunisaki Japan on Oct 14, 2024

The clip of me being chased passed the Tori gate, I won’t post. I cursed a wee bit, not at anyone in particular. Just said a few things as my shirt had some holes created. Reminded me of being back at the metal refinery.

Would I ever go to this festival again? Absolutely 💯 yes. Just with non flammable clothing.

This event is a fire festival held on the evening of October 14 every year. Its origin is unknown. Kebesu, a man in white clothes and wearing a wooden mask try to attack the bonfire protected by Toba, the fire protector. Kebesu attack the fire repeatedly and finally he reaches the fire and stirs the bonfire to let fire sparks fly in the air. Then, Kebesu and Toba both hold a small torch and run around and chase the audience. Scream and cheer can be heard during the event. Finally, Kebesu hit the ground to bless the next year’s harvest.
