「ホーリャイ！」秩父の大通りを本町屋台が優美に登場！勇壮な秩父囃子が祭りを盛り上げる！金や極彩色の龍が煌々と輝く本町屋台！

本町屋台（もとまちやたい）
重さ12ｔ高さ6.5ｍ
彫刻や装飾など金箔押しの上に彩色をする贅を尽くした造り。賑やかな腰組み、屋根まわりの竜の彫刻、唐獅子の軒支輪（のきしりん）、屋根の箱棟の金箔等彫刻や装飾が見事です。水引幕は当時江戸随一の縫師玉孫により文政4年（1821）に作られ、後幕は嘉永5年（1852）に作られている。後幕は玩具を積んだ宝船の刺繍が施され、中央のダルマが特徴的です。

約300年前に始まった秩父夜祭は、京都祇園祭、飛騨高山祭とともに日本三大山車祭りの一つとして知られています。 傘鉾と呼ばれる2台の山車と、屋台と呼ばれる4台の山車があります。秩父夜祭は、秩父神社の一大祭です。 豪華な山車を曳いて、ちちぶの街を巡り、山車の中では歌舞伎が披露されます。 夜空には花火が打ち上げられ、多くの参拝客で賑わいます。
祭りの起源は、江戸時代中期、神社の境内に生糸の市が開かれたことに遡ります。冬の空に打ち上がる花火を背景に、山車の上で揺れる色鮮やかな提灯が祭りの魅力です。
秩父夜祭の山車と神楽は、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。

The carvings and decorations are made with extravagant coloring over gold leaf. The carvings and decorations are magnificent, including the lively hip structure, dragon carvings around the roof, the Chinese lion eaves support rings, and the gold leaf on the box ridge of the roof. The mizuhiki curtain was made in 1821 by Tamasato, the best seamstress in Edo at the time, and the rear curtain was made in 1852. The rear curtain is embroidered with a treasure ship loaded with toys, and features a distinctive Daruma doll in the center.

The Chichibu Night Festival, which began about 300 years ago, is known as one of the three major float festivals in Japan, along with the Kyoto Gion Festival and the Hida Takayama Festival. There are two floats called Kasaboko and four floats called Yatai. The Chichibu Night Festival is a major festival of Chichibu Shrine. Gorgeous floats are pulled around the town of Chichibu, and kabuki performances are performed inside the floats. Fireworks are launched into the night sky, and the festival is crowded with many worshippers.
The origin of the festival dates back to the mid-Edo period, when a raw silk market was held within the shrine grounds. The colorful lanterns swaying on the floats against the backdrop of fireworks in the winter sky are the charm of the festival.
The floats and kagura of the Chichibu Night Festival are designated as Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan.
