天岩戸神社は、宮崎県西臼杵郡高千穂町にある神社。
天照皇大神の天岩戸伝説を伝える神社である。
天岩戸神社は、岩戸川を挟んで東本宮と西本宮があり、一般的に天岩戸神社と呼ばれるのは西本宮である。
社伝によれば西本宮は、瓊瓊杵尊が天岩戸の故事を偲び、その古跡に創建された。
御祭神は、大日孁尊（おおひるめのみこと）。天照大神の別名である。
古来、西本宮は「天磐戸神社」、東本宮は「氏社」と呼ばれていた。
明治4年（1871年）にそれぞれ「天岩戸神社」、「氏神社」と改称した。
その後、昭和45年（1970年）に両社が合併、天岩戸神社東西両本宮を称するようになる。
岩戸川の断崖にある「天岩戸」と呼ぶ岩窟を御神体とし、これは神話に登場する天岩屋と伝える。

西本宮は、日本屈指のパワースポットとして知られ、全国から多くの参拝者が訪れている。

西本宮から岩戸川に沿って約10分ほど歩いた場所にある「天安河原（あまのやすかわら）」。
ここは、高千穂を代表するパワースポットである。
天照大神が岩戸に隠れた際、八百万（やおよろず）の神がこの河原に集まり神議したと伝わる巌窟。
別名「仰慕ヶ窟（ぎょうぼがいわや）」とも呼ばれる。
現在では無数にある積まれた石が天安河原の神秘的な雰囲気を引き立てている。
戦後から参拝客の間で自然発生的に生まれた風習という。
願いを込めて小石を積むと願いが叶うと云われる。
仰慕窟（ぎょうぼがいわや）の奥には天安河原宮があり、思兼神を主祭神として八百萬神が祀られている。
天安河原は、日本を代表する美景の一つであり、多くの観光客が全国から訪れる。

Amanoiwato Shrine is located in Takachiho-cho, Nishi-usuki-gun, Miyazaki Prefecture.

It is said that if you make a wish and pile up the stones, your wish will come true.
At the back of the Gyobogaiwaya is the Amanoyasugawaramiya Shrine, where eight hundred million deities are enshrined with Shikenjin as the main deity.
Amanoyasugawara is one of Japan’s most beautiful landscapes, and many tourists visit from all over the country.
