The Secret Tokyo City You Can’t Get To by Train

Here’s an article about Musashimurayama City being the only city in Tokyo without a train station.

  1. There are several train stations all around Musashi Murayama. To the east is 上北台駅; to the south is 武蔵砂川駅; to the west is 箱根ケ崎駅; to the north is 西武球場前駅. These are all within walking distance of Musashi Murayama-shi, which is why there is not a station with an address within the city itself.

  2. There's another reason why not many tourists come here, there's no Hard-off/Book-off here. Though there is a Aeon mall with Animate

  3. The Japanese are great believers in connectivity. Strange that they still have cities without train service. Why?

  4. Interesting 😮. I like visiting places that most tourists don't go to and like you said it's nioce and quite.

  5. Not trying to be the weeb that thinks Japan is a paradise, but videos like this always amazes me that even in some "isolated" areas, Japanese cities are still overall clean, safe, with decent infrastructure etc. Like, even countries as Swiss or Norway can have some rough no-go neighborhoods, and Japan, although it has its problems, seems like they basically solved urbanism (at least when it comes to those problems i quoted)

  6. Lived not too far from here for a while and somehow I never went! I'll have to check it out next time I'm back. Subscribed!

  7. hah! the ducks @ 3:59 that really was worth a chuckle. One of them certainly didn't want to waste time at all and keep moving.

  8. Thanks for coming out to my neck of the woods! I actually live in Tachikawa but cycle through Higashi Yamato, Musashi Murayama and that area daily on my commutes to and from work. I'm surprised you didn't show the giant stag beetle model near the entrance to the first tunnel. Just behind those tunnels and hills is Lake Tamako (and Lake Sayama a bit further back), a man made lake with a wonderful cycle/running/walking path and great views of Tokyo and Mt Fuji (if the weather permits!). I think it's great that you are showing the lesser known areas as many of them show the real Japan. Look forward to seeing more.

  9. Oh wow, YouTube really does sometimes recommend gems like this. This chill walk-around a city in Japan feels so targeted to me specifically, a weeb geography/urbanism nerd, aaaaaaa loved it!
Actually surprised to see your sub count, there should be way way more than that, so I'm happy to add one at least! 🥰🥰

  10. suprisingly reminds me of some parts of my home town here in southern brazil, i think mostly the way the urban spaces interact with nature may be doing it

  11. Other people said the same thing, but after watching so many Japan travel videos, it's weird to see just normal, boring, ugly suburban Japan lmao. Kinda looks like many parts of the UK! (just with cleaner roads, and 1000% more power cables) It was nicer once it got away from the busy main roads at least. That photo of the train tunnel construction was really cool!

  12. Thank you for sharing what everyday Japan is truly like. I really miss living there, and your videos bring back so many memories of everyday life.

  13. What a great video! That was a ton of fun. I love seeing smaller channels like this one getting recommended to people, such a fun jaunt through a less traveled part of Japan.

  14. Great video. Makes me want to visit that area when I do eventually make my trip to Japan. It looks like an interesting place to visit and walk around.

  15. Best brush up on your Kanji. @10:30 you walked right past on of my favorite signs; 飲み放題 (Nomihoudai). You could have used a few beers after all that walking.

  16. As soon as you said there was no train (and started your walk at the monorail) I thought they should extend it and you said they will 🙂

  17. Enjoying your video until you dissed crows. Then I closed the browser window.

(Actually, I didn't, still enjoyed the video.)

  18. Boom! Looks like you got some traction📈 You walked past my in-laws mansion near the 'whale' sign by the City Office. I find that area pretty boring, but I guess it's very affordable. You should visit Show Kinen Park in Tachikawa if you haven't yet. It's amazing☘️🌿🌴

  19. I've been to both Hakonegasaki and Musashiyamato, I didn't even realize that there are no trains between those areas 😄

  20. So odd for a place in or around Tokyo to not have a train station. Really good that they're going to extend the mono rail, having used a motorcycle in Tokyo (which was a pain, car is probably even more of a pain), trains are such an easy way to get around there.

  21. Born Tokyo, and raised in Nerima not too far from this area. Moved to Hawai'i at age 7, and been here (Kailua) ever since, almost 60 years. I had no idea Marugame Udon existed here, Mahalo for the heads-up. I got to do a 4 week solo trip to Japan last year, and sad to see my home, and my Ojiichans home both history, though it's to be expected after this amount of time. The trip was amazing anyways, and my Japanese (first language) all came back to me. It felt like home.

  22. More of this kind of content that features hidden gem places in Japan. I subbed and looking forward to your future videos. Greetings from the Philippines! ☺️

  23. This is an interesting video! That's cool to go and visit places not many people get to see, it's what I also try to do on my channel. I also visited some Japanese-built train tunnels in a couple of my videos.🙂

  24. I used to drive by that mono rail station every other day on my way to work for 2 years . Didn’t know about that tunnel. Amazing content!

  25. Hinode is in Tokyo and there is no train. There is an Aeon mall and a big Buddah though. The closest station would be Musashi-Hikida in Akiruno and a short walk North will get you there.

  26. You have to imagine that the Tama Monorail was supposed to turn west along Route 5 to service that area. The curve where the bicycle parking is seems to have been reserved for exactly that purpose.
