Lake Ontake was created in 1961 as a source of water for the Aichi Water Supply (Makio Dam) and has watched over the lives of the people of Ohtaki Village for half a century since. Its reservoir volume is equivalent to 55 Nagoya Dome cups, drawing the rich water resources of Ohtaki Village from the eastern part of the Nobi Plain to the Chita Peninsula, and moistening the fields (about 15,000 ha) of 27 cities and towns in Aichi and Gifu Prefectures.
Shizenko (Nature Lake), on the other hand, is a natural lake created when the flow of the Otaki River was choked off by the 1984 earthquake in western Nagano Prefecture, and its quiet surface with towering trees presents a mysterious scene. The deep forestsclear streams, dead trees on the lake’s surface and cliffs by the lake’s edge can be enjoyed on a nature canoe tour of the lake.
おんたけ（御岳）湖」は、1961年に愛知用水の水源（牧尾ダム）として誕生し、以来半世紀にわたり王滝村の人々の暮らしを見守ってきました。その貯水量は名古屋ドーム55杯分になり、王滝村の豊かな水資源を濃尾平野の東部から知多半島まで引き、愛知県・岐阜県の27市町の田畑（約15,000ha）を潤しています。
そして一方の「自然湖」は、1984年の「長野県西部地震」によって王滝川の流れがせき止められて生まれた天然湖で、静かな湖面に立ち木が屹立し神秘的な情景を見せています。深い森と清流、湖面の立ち枯れの木々、湖畔の断崖の風情を、自然湖 #ネイチャーカヌーツアー で楽しめます。
