Oumu Town, Sea of Okhotsk

Indigenous peoples settled and flourished in the town of Omu—located along the northern coast of Hokkaido facing the Sea of Okhotsk—as early as prehistoric times; however, large-scale development did not begin until the mid-19th century. Blessed with vast forests, grasslands, and the Sea of Okhotsk, the town boasts thriving forestry, livestock farming, dairy farming, and fishing industries, all supported by its abundant natural resources.
It is also known as the “Town of Sunrise” due to the breathtaking beauty of the sun rising over the Sea of Okhotsk.
