Kakunodate Festival 2026 | September 9 | Akita, Japan

The Kakunodate Festival is a traditional event with a history of approximately 400 years, held annually from September 7 to 9 in Kakunodate, Semboku City, Akita Prefecture.

It is also inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The festival combines the celebrations of Shinmeisha Shrine and Yakushido Temple, with prayers for good health and prosperity in business.
