This video shows scenes from “Okihikizome-shiki”, which marks the opening of “Okihiki-gyōji”, a log-pulling ceremony, held in April 2026 as one phase of the once-in-20-year “Shikinen Sengū” festival to celebrate the rebuilding of Ise Jingū, the Shinto religions most venerable shrine. Residents from different neighbourhoods in Ise City pulled logs of sacred wood along the Isuzu River to the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingū (“Naikū”). This wood will be used for the rebuilding of the shrine.
