🌊 Hawaii Beach in Yurihama Town, Tottori, Japan is a beautiful stretch of coastline along the Sea of Japan, famous for its white sandy beach, crystal-clear water, and breathtaking sunsets.
Despite its tropical-sounding name, this hidden destination is located in western Japan. Its name comes from the former town of Hawai, which later established a sister-city relationship with Hawaii Island in the United States.
⛩️Standing on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea is Ominato Shrine, a sacred place that has watched over the safety of fishermen and the local community for generations.
Surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery, the shrine has long been one of Yurihama’s most beloved landmarks.
In recent years, powerful typhoons and enormous waves damaged the shrine’s historic torii gate, while age-related deterioration threatened the entire structure.
Inspired by the community’s determination to preserve this treasured landscape, the Torii Restoration Project was launched, bringing together local volunteers, the tourism association, and supporters from across Japan.
Thanks to these heartfelt efforts, the new torii gate was completed in July 2026, symbolizing hope, renewal, and a new beginning for this beautiful coastal shrine.
This film captures the harmony between Japan’s natural beauty, local history, community spirit, and the timeless relationship between people and the sea, presented as a cinematic visual journey.
🎵The music featured in this film is “The Start” by We Lepers, a song inspired by hope, renewal, and new beginnings.
It was carefully chosen to reflect the rebirth of the torii gate and the new chapter beginning for Ominato Shrine and the people of Yurihama.

⛩️The new torii gate has been completed, but the crowdfunding campaign remains open until July 31 to help cover the reconstruction costs and preserve this iconic coastal shrine for future generations.

🌊鳥取県湯梨浜町・ハワイ海水浴場は、日本海に面した美しい砂浜と岩礁が広がる、四季を通じて豊かな自然を感じられる海岸です。
一見すると南国を思わせる「ハワイ」という名前ですが、これは旧羽合（はわい）町の地名に由来し、その縁からアメリカ・ハワイ島との姉妹都市交流へとつながりました。
⛩海に突き出た岩場の上に佇む「大湊宮（おおみなとみや）」は、古くから地域の人々に守り継がれてきた神社であり、海の安全と地域の平穏を見守り続けています。
しかし近年、台風による猛烈な暴風雨や日本海の激しい高波の影響により、鳥居の笠木（横木）が失われ、長い年月による老朽化も進んでいました。
この大切な景観を未来へ残したいという地域の想いから「鳥居再生プロジェクト」が始動し、多くの方々の温かい支援によって新しい鳥居が完成しました。
今回の映像では、再び美しい姿を取り戻した大湊宮の鳥居と、ハワイ海水浴場の雄大な自然を空撮で記録しています。
なお、撮影にあたり湯梨浜町観光協会様より許可をいただき、地域への敬意を込めて制作しました。

I enjoyed seeing the torii and hearing about the area's link with Hawaii. Loved the angle where the torii seemed to turn around in front of the drone – so surreal! It's great to hear about the community supporting keeping this landmark vibrant.
