長崎県長崎市の軍艦島。日本の近代化を支えた炭鉱の島です。かつて5300人が住んでいた島は1974年に閉山され、今は無人島。時が止まったようなコンクリート建築群が独特の景観を生み出しています。2015年に世界文化遺産に登録され、日本の歩んだ近代化の歴史を今に伝えています。

Gunkanjima, located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is a coal mining island that supported Japan’s modernization. The island was once home to 5,300 people. But it was uninhabited after the mine closed in 1974. The concrete buildings, seemingly frozen in time and create a unique landscape. Gunkanjima was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2015, it continues to tell the story of Japan’s modernization.
