Hokkaido Winter Drive #1 | Sapporo to Ukimido Park ( Lake Toya )
This is my first time driving on snowy roads in Hokkaido, Japan.
I drove from Sapporo to Ukimido Park at Lake Toya to show that winter driving can be calm and manageable — even for first-time drivers.
I’ve lived in Japan in a place where it rarely snows. This was my first experience driving in snow, and I wanted to share it honestly for anyone feeling nervous about renting a car in Hokkaido.
The first half of the video is a POV winter drive, focusing on calm driving, winter road conditions, and what to expect as a beginner.
The second half is a quiet walk around Ukimido Park, with steady shots, pavilion views, and peaceful scenes around Lake Toya.
If you’re planning a winter trip to Hokkaido and wondering whether you can handle driving in snow, i hope this video helps you feel more confident.

The drive and the lake are equally dreamy! 😍
I'll be driving to Ukimido at the end of October. Hopefully, I can see the area full of autumn colors 🍁
