The Australian cattle dog. This one is full of energy, and he needs it. Still used as a herder to this day, he also needs plenty of exercise and is most happy when he’s working. He’s a tough one, his mongrel looks befitting his fearless outlook. Many of these guys never get to old age; the trials of a daredevil lifestyle.
Young ones need daily obedience training, though both pups and adults are as playful as each other. He’ll put up with other dogs, but the cat may get the quiet treatment. He doesn’t like strangers much at first, but will warm to them given time and patience.
When he knows you, he’s generally a sociable little fellow, it kind of goes with the job.
He loves to learn, and training him will be a doddle. When fully trained you can rely on him to be quite the bouncer/doorman. He’ll happily sit up on guard all night, it’s impossible to tire him out!
He loves the outdoors, he loves to run and gather. If you live in an apartment, forget it! He just won’t be happy. Get used to brushing him, he needs to get rid of those dead hairs every week. Depending on their colour they’re known as a ‘blue heeler’ or a ‘red heeler’.
Interesting facts: He can be prone to deafness and OCD. So make sure his food bowls are in a straight line! One of the oldest breeds in the word, today’s Australian Cattle Dog has a bit of Dingo in him too, hence the ‘red heeler’ title! He was also famously the star of Mad Max – The Road Warrior, along with several other hit movies.
The Australian Cattle Dog: An independent and loyal, master of endurance.

Very smart and loyal dogs. My blue heeler is called Dingo 🙂
Great video and very accurate. Beautiful dogs, too.
APPARENTLY, the ACD is considered a very healthy breed of dog also. I would love to rescue one ideally because I prefer to adopt other than buy from a breeder, but we'll see. I'm very active also, lover strenuous hikes in the backwoods, so this dog would suit me I think. It does disturb me when I see owners of energetic or intense dogs that are not up to the task of handling them. This video touched on that, but it should be stressed that dogs like the ACD are not a good fit for most people. A few laps around the block once a day aint makin it.
One of the oldest breeds in the world???? The breed is only 150 years old!

We just got a little blue boy named Bandit; 8 weeks old and he's already learned come, sit, and heel (I would say the easiest for him, given his herding instincts).
I’m extremely interested in a blue heeler as a pet and barn chore companion. Any one who had/has one have any tips or unknown things about them that I could know? It be extremely appreciated.
Oi da um coração
LOVE KYLEE
I have an Australian Cattle dog. I live in an apartment and have for most of the 8 years I have had him, however, we do a lot of exercise and go to the dog park almost every day. Super high energy loyal dog. He is the best dog I ever had. We go camping, hiking, boating, kayaking. And he can learn new tricks in minutes. They are just horrible puppies though. haha.
I live in an apartment and my my female blue heeler is happy. We do a lot of outdoor activities so by the time she’s home she’s pooped out. If we decided to stay in Tilly just plays with her toys or chills on the couch.
One of the oldest breeds in the world, not remotely true!
ASD's are not one of the oldest breeds. Their breed was established in the late 1800's.
I have one that's fourteen months old. I live in a 700 sq feet home on a half of acre. I take her out very day to walk and some off leash running on the trail when no ones around. At least five miles when she wants to. and ball chasing after. You can have them in a small home but you need to wear them out. If not you will not get any sleep and your home will be eaten in half. They do nip my does I don't mind because its just me with her.
Molto bello. Come cane.
Live with one
old breeds are the best!
Yeah Australian cattle dog is also famously known for Bluey. I know you didn’t mention . Bluey because this video came before bluey ever even existed but yeah.
