Sighthounds are dogs that overwhelm their prey with sight and running ability. Selective mating for the purpose of improving vision and running performance has resulted in physical characteristics such as a lean body, long legs, a flexible back, a relatively large heart and efficient lungs. The most distinctive feature of dogs in this group is the slender head, which provides a wide field of view, but also has the disadvantage that the depth of objects cannot be grasped well because the overlap between the left and right fields of view is small.

There is little scientific evidence that dogs belonging to the Sighthound have better eyesight than other dogs. However, since there are many retinal ganglion cells, there is also a view that it may be high to grasp rapid movement.

サイトハウンドと呼ばれる、優れた視覚（サイト）と走力で獲物を追跡・捕獲する狩猟犬がいます。
足が長く、筋肉質でありながら、細くしなやかな体が特徴的です。

サイトハウンドの特徴1.視野が広い
「ハウンド」とは、狩猟犬のなかでも獲物の発見や捕獲が得意な獣猟犬のことを指し、視覚が優れたサイトハウンドと、嗅覚が優れたセントハウンドの2タイプがいます。

犬はそもそも視野が広く、人間の視野が180度であるのに対し250度の視界をもつとされていますが、サイトハウンドはそれ以上で、270度ちかく見渡すことができるともいわれています。

サイトハウンドの特徴2.顔もボディもスリム
速く走るために進化したサイトハウンドは、風の抵抗を受けないように顔も体もスリムです。足が長く、筋肉質な体は彫刻のように無駄がなく、短毛であれば体の美しいラインが見てとれます。

長毛タイプは、まるで長髪の貴公子のような美しい出で立ちをしています。また、小さな頭部、尖った長い鼻先もクールな印象を与えます。
サイトハウンドの特徴3.美しい走り姿「ダブルサスペンションギャロップ」
走るボルゾイ
獲物を追い詰める狩猟犬であったサイトハウンドは、際立った俊足を持っています。
走るために特化した犬種であり、ドッグレースに出る犬もいます。

走る姿の美しさには、「ダブルサスペンションギャロップ」という独特の走り方が起因しています。

「ダブルサスペンションギャロップ」とは、体を伸ばしたり丸めたりと伸縮させながら、同時に、前足と後ろ足も伸ばしたり引き寄せたりと、同じ動きをする走り方のことです。

4本の足すべてを伸ばしている瞬間と引き寄せている瞬間どちらも、すべての足が地面から離れるため、まさに「駆け抜けるように」「飛んでいるように」走ります。

連続でジャンプをしつづけるような動きになるのが最たる特徴で、サイトハウンド以外の犬種でも全力疾走をした瞬間には見られるかもしれませんが、サイトハウンドは軽い走りでもこの走り方をします。

サイトハウンドの特徴　判断力がある
サイトハウンドは物覚えがよく、判断力にも優れています。
狩猟犬としての本能から動くものに敏感に反応することもあるようですが、性格的には穏やかな犬種です。

優しく落ち着いた表情に魅了される愛好家も多く、穏やかな家庭犬として人気です。
