[バルセロナ １８日 ロイター] – メキシコのシェインバウム大統領とスペインのサンチェス首相は１８日、バルセロナで会談した。メキシコの大統領がスペインを訪問するのは８年ぶりで、両国の関係改善を示すものとなった。
バルセロナでは左派の国際会議が開催されシェインバウム氏も出席。これに合わせて会談が行われた。
両国関係は、シェインバウム氏の前任者であるロペスオブラドール前大統領の時代に悪化。ロペスオブラドール氏は２０１９年、植民地支配時代にメキシコで行われた虐待についてスペインに謝罪を要求したが、当時この要求は受け入れられなかった。
シェインバウム氏は記者団に対して「スペイン首相と国王の双方から既に歩み寄りがあり、われわれもそれを認識している」と述べた。一方で、サンチェス氏との会談では、植民地時代の虐待を認めることの重要性に関するメキシコの立場を引き続き説明したとも語った。
スペインのクエルポ経済相は会議の会場で記者団に「シェインバウム大統領がここに出席していることは、両国の関係改善の非常に重要かつ前向きなシグナルだと考えている」と述べ、特にエネルギー、インフラ、金融分野での貿易・投資関係の強化の重要性を強調した。
