[ワシントン １６日 ロイター] – ユーロ圏財務相会合（ユーログループ）のピエラカキス議長は１６日、欧州エネルギー同盟の構築は欧州連合（ＥＵ）が米国や中国との競争力を維持するために計画する改革に不可欠だとの考えを示した。
ワシントンの国際通貨基金（ＩＭＦ）で講演し、エネルギーが国境を越えて容易に流通できるようになれば、電力価格が引き下げられると指摘した。欧州のエネルギー価格は米国や中国の２─３倍で、グローバルな競争相手に大きな競争上の不利を抱えている。
イタリアのドラギ、レッタ両元首相は２０２４年、欧州の競争力強化とＥＵ単一市場の機能向上に関する報告書をそれぞれ作成し、数十項目に及ぶ改革を提言。
提言には、ＥＵ加盟２７カ国の資本市場を一つに統合する取り組み、域内共通の汎欧州企業向け特別法制度の導入、欧州が管理するオンライン決済手段としてのデジタルユーロの導入などが含まれた。
ピエラカキス氏は「本格的なエネルギー同盟が構築されなければ、これらの政策要素を実現するために必要な条件を整えることはできないだろう」と主張した。
ＥＵのエネルギー同盟は１５年に始まったプロジェクトで、域内で電力を容易に販売・送電できるようにすることを目的としている。
