[ブリュッセル ３０日 ロイター] – 欧州連合（ＥＵ）欧州委員会のビルクネン副委員長（デジタル問題担当）は３０日、ＥＵの「ＡＩギガファクトリー」構想に予想を上回る７６社から応募があったと表明した。
ＥＵは今年２月、ＡＩ分野で米中に追いつく戦略の一環として、２００億ユーロの基金を創設して「ＡＩギガファクトリー」をＥＵ域内４カ所に建設する計画を公表した。 もっと見る
ギガファクトリーは約１０万個の最先端ＡＩ半導体を活用するＡＩコンピューティングとデータストレージの大規模ハブとなる予定。
ビルクネン氏は会見で「加盟１６カ国の６０の候補地からＡＩギガファクトリー設立に関する７６件の提案を受け取った」とし「これは私たちの予想をはるかに上回るものであり、ＡＩイノベーションの勢いと熱意が欧州で高まっていることを示している」と述べた。
具体的な企業名は明らかにしなかった。欧州委によると、ＥＵ内外の企業から応募があり、大手ハイテク企業、データセンター運営会社、通信事業者、電力供給事業者、金融投資家などが含まれている。
ビルクネン氏は「応募企業は合計で少なくとも３００万個の最新世代ＡＩプロセッサー（ＧＰＵ）を購入する計画を示している」と表明。ＡＩギガファクトリーの設立について、今年末に正式な公募を開始すると述べた。
