新ローマ教皇、過去にトランプ氏とバンス氏を批判

[ワシントン８日ロイター] – 新ローマ教皇に選出されて「レオ１４世」を名乗るロバート・フランシス・プレボスト枢機卿が以前、トランプ米大統領とバンス副大統領を批判していたことが同枢機卿のＸへの投稿で明らかになった。

プレボスト氏は今年２月、「ＪＤ・バンスは間違っている。キリストはわれわれに他人への愛を等級付けするよう求めてはいない」と題する文章を改めて投稿した。

トランプ氏と中米エルサルバドルのブケレ大統領は４月に会談し、米国からエルサルバドルに移送する犯罪組織メンバーを、人権侵害が行われているとされる刑務所に収監することについて協議した。その際、プレボスト氏は「苦難が分からないのか」などと投稿した。

新教皇は、貧しい人や移民に寄り添う前教皇フランシスコの路線を継承するとみられている。こうした路線はトランプ政権とは異なるものだ。

これまでの投稿によると、新教皇は気候変動に対処する取り組みを支持している。一方で新教皇は人工妊娠中絶に反対するなど、トランプ政権の政策の一部で方向性が一致している。

トランプ氏は、米国出身者が初めて教皇に選ばれたことについて「大きな栄誉であり、胸を躍らせている」と投稿。「レオ１４世にお会いするのを心待ちにしている」とした。
