[シドニー ６日 ロイター] – ニュージーランドのピーターズ外相は６日、トランプ米大統領の歴史認識に疑問を呈したゴフ駐英大使を解任したと発表した。
ゴフ氏は４日にロンドンで開催されたフォーラムで、ロシアとの関係改善を目指すトランプ氏の試みと、ナチスドイツと戦った当時のチャーチル英首相の行動を対比させた。
バルトネン・フィンランド外相とのパネルディスカッションで、「トランプ氏はチャーチルの胸像を大統領執務室に戻したが、果たして本当に歴史を理解しているのだろうか」と問いかけた。
ピーターズ氏は声明で「（ゴフ氏の発言は）非常に遺憾だ。ニュージーランド政府の見解を代表するものではない」との立場を示し、同氏を駐英大使の職にとどめておくことはできないと述べた。
ゴフ氏はロイターのコメントの要請に応じていない。
