On December 27, 2024, the northern coast of Peru, particularly the popular beach town of Máncora, experienced severe tidal waves, known locally as “maretazos.” These powerful waves caused significant material damage to local businesses and the artisanal pier, disrupting the livelihoods of many residents.

The intense waves, some reaching 6! meters in height, struck various beaches including Máncora, Lobitos, El Ñuro, and Cabo Blanco. This led to the destruction of infrastructure, with the artisanal pier in Máncora suffering considerable damage.
