15日に大分市の日本製鉄九州製鉄所の関係者から「会社に来ていた男性従業員の姿が見えなくなった」と通報がありました。
警察が工場内を捜索したところ、溶鋼鍋と呼ばれる鉄を溶かすための設備の中から人の骨のようなものが見つかりました。
溶鋼鍋は直径5メートル、深さが4メートルで、中の温度は1000℃以上あるということです。
行方が分からなくなっているのは、鋼を溶かして鉄を作る作業を担当していた30歳の従業員です。
