Packing for a bike trip is a delicate balance of how uncomfortable can you be off the bike to make you more comfortable on the bike. More stuff means each pedal stroke is harder, and on bike tours, there’s hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS, of pedal strokes. Here’s all of my gear I’ll be taking on a two week, ~800 mile fixed gear bike tour from Sacramento to San Diego, CA. FYI, your kit will likely be way lighter than mine since I’m making videos on the road.

  1. Love that you're doing this trip, but again, I would strongly, strongly recommend putting as little weight as you can in that bag. It's gonna start to feel real heavy, but who knows! Maybe this set up is doable for you. edit: I'd still get a full frame bag

  2. Yoooooo! A lot of CA state parks/campgrounds have bike in campsites! They don’t require a reservation and are cheaper. Plan ahead and figure out which parks have that amenity.

  3. You are planning to carry all that weight on your back? You absolutely know it is gonna wreak havoc on your spine and pain your butt due to the extra pressure! Back panniers are a much better option, remember the wise saying: All the weight goes on the bike!

  4. Zach they sell USB-C to micro small adapters. I take them when I travel as a backup incase my micro usb cable dies. Lezyne has a great mini pump that can do high pressure, they also have a high volume version too. Best thing it comes with a bottle cage mount. Other than that I would say you might want to con sider a rear rack to holed the back pack. you can get one on the road if you find wearing the back pack a mood changer. I used to ride with a back pack all the time but when I finally got a rack WOW did that make a difference on long rides.

  5. After years of bike shorts I've taken your lead and wear just my everyday clothing when riding. So much cooler, comfortable and less looking like a douche. The key is to find the right saddle, then it doesn't matter what you're wearing. Good luck on your journey, look forward to the updates.

  6. Zach please carry a mouse and stick the fenders to the bike. Also install a dynamo hub and connect it with the lights. You will definitely safe a pound this way.

  7. Couple things… a lot of campsites have special sites reserved for bikes and hikers that don't need reservations. You might regret having a backpack for such a long ride. I would try and carry heavy items on the bike and make the back pack as light as possible. One other item that is not need but nice to have is a cheap 3in1mini inflator/deflator, light and power supply. Makes dealing with an air sleeping mat so much easier.

  8. Except for the chrome bag, nice to see the rest of the items were readily available at nearby stores. Good luck!

  9. stealth camping in cali is hella easy dude. There was only one day where I had to sleep in an undesirable place on my 3 week tour. Outside of that there was a woodsy area everywhere I went, and most of them werent campgrounds.

  10. Have a shit ton of fun. But maybe you don’t need the mac book lol. Just film and when you get home focus on the editing etc. just enjoy your trip.

  11. Where's a good place to find linen shirts? I want to try riding in them but can't find anything decent on amazon.

  12. I did a 1800 km bikepacking trip here in the Philppines for a month with my Fixed Gear!!!!

  13. I love your videos. Just getting into biking (+ not a lot of fixed gear riders in LA) and I'm finding your videos extremely helpful.

  14. I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts of how the parts of your bike did. Can’t wait for your reviews.

  15. Great vid. There should still be a few hiker/biker sites in CA that will let you camp there even if the campground is full. Usually have had good luck pleading the "but I'm on a bike and can't go any further" case :). Also, yes, carrying vid editing gear is heavy and a PITA!

  16. ive been watching your vids alot lately because im buying my first fixed hear and i gotta say all your videos are super entertaining

  17. My dude, you don't need to book hiker-biker state park campgrounds–they let you stay without a reservation–and they're like sub-$20 a night for cyclists!
