■Summary

This paper uses original survey data from the NLI Research Institute to analyze changes over time (2021–2025) in perceived productivity while working from home relative to working in the office. The results indicate that perceived productivity during telework has generally improved, with the share of respondents reporting increased productivity rising and the share reporting decreased productivity declining over time. However, these improvements have recently slowed, suggesting signs of a plateau. When examined by commuting time, while an overall upward trend in perceived productivity gains is observed across groups, the decline in the share reporting decreased productivity is limited among those with long commuting times. These findings suggest that although perceived productivity in telework has improved alongside the development of working environments and adaptation to telework, including evolving selection patterns, its potential for further improvement may be diminishing and stabilizing in recent years, and that its effects may differ depending on conditions such as commuting time.
