We probably answer more questions about our henna hair dyes than just about any other product at Lush. Do you use the whole block? Will it work on your grays? And, of course, how do you use it? As always, Erica is here to help with this crash course on our plant-based hair dyes.

Erica starts us off with a history lesson explaining both the brick’s unique shape and style, as well as Lush’s own 40-year journey with these vegan hair dyes. Each shade is a unique mix harkening back to co-founder Mark Constantine’s origins as a trichologist and henna colorist in the United Kingdom, and each mix is handmade with a blend that brings out each beautiful color. From lemon juice and coffee to nettle powder and cocoa butter, every dye is designed to yield the most vibrant hues on every head of hair.

  1. I am having black hair, I only want to make my hair healthy and moisturized, so which color should I pick and also does this help that way? I have no problem with red or maroon henna but i need a professional advice from Erica😊

  2. Something the website mentions, but you don't mention here, is mixing pieces of different bricks for different colours. For example: I am a bleached platinum and want to go copper ginger, not pumpkin ginger. So I think I'd add marron to rouge, but I'm not sure in what ratio.

  3. I have mostly grey hair, salt and pepper but mostly salt (perhaps 80% grey). The Rouge left me with a natural red head look, probably because how grey my hair is naturally.

  4. I wanna say because of lush I grew my hair back from trictillomania henna made my hair grew faster stronger and roots made my huge bauld spots grow back under 4 months thank you lush from anywhere my opion on henna i love it I probably went though 5 bricks under 6 months

  5. U can’t lighten ur hair with these only go darker and you can’t pick ur tone or even the shade honestly ur just picking a colour whatever turns out is what u got witch sucks like the homemade ones are horrible don’t do it but I think these ones are kinda ok seems there not like real dye there not going burn ur hair out so I think it’s ok the lush ones but it’s a lot folling around u mine as well get semi dye from salon or store and do it ur self it’s same it’s not lifting ur hair so it’s not going hurt it so it’s the same as thing but u can actually pick the colour and tone u want lol

  6. I am giving it a try today. I will leave it 3 to 4 hours and let u know what is rhe difference between 1 pound box henna and lush henna. I have been using 1 pound henna whole life and wanted to try lush. I must also admit that the lush henna smell is lovely and amazing.

  7. I have natural auburn hair but with cool tone skin. Which henna should I buy to put cool tones in my auburn hair without making it just brown? TIPS PLEASE THANK YOU

  8. I wanted mine rouge I just tried it and didn't turn out bright as I wanted to be I left it for 4 hrs. Could it be maybe because in Nov. I colored dark brown 3x with henna BUT different brand prior to that I was coloring it with henna red and some other color. I really want it very bright copper. The Rouge. Maybe Lush sent me the wrong color. My hair turned out brownish with reddish tint. I will wait couple of days and see what color it turns out.

  9. I've been trying caca brun for about 3 months now and sadly the results weren't that great. There wasn't much of a difference to my original brownish/black hair. I think I'll stick with the henna from the local Indian store.

  10. I have used the rouge henna for 2 years now and yes it started out startlingly pumpkin orange (had white/grey hair) it's now the most incredible auburn colour. Have had strangers actually stop me in the street and say what a fab colour.

  11. I have black hair with a Lot of grey and did a henna treatment and my hair went brown, but my grey went a type of light blond. So it was a hint of brown with blond 🤦🏾‍♀️. I knew that grey will look like highlights but not what I wanted. This time I 2 samples of Noir and brun and I want to mix them and make a nice deep rich colour. So I still have to use the more red tones first? I have a patch test of brun and noir mixed on my hair.

  12. Honestly I could have sworn there was a vid of the founder of LUSH applying henna and he used a grater as a preprep for it. He literally had people grating while he was applying.

  13. If I have really thick hair, is it possible I’ll require more than one brick? Or is it generously sized?

  14. These are what got me into henna but the bricks are suuuuuch a pain to break down. I just order henna powder now. I’ve only used henna for the last 5 years.

  15. My hair is black but I want to dye it to a REALLY light brown, which one do you recommend I buy?
