■Notes
– The Burj Al Arab, which opened on December 1, 1999, is often referred to as a “7-star hotel,” but it is officially a 5-star hotel. The term “7-star hotel” is said to have been coined by a British journalist who toured the hotel before its official opening. The journalist described the Burj Al Arab as “the best thing he’d ever seen” and called it a 7-star hotel. A Jumeirah Group spokesperson stated, “There’s not much we can do to stop this. We don’t encourage the use of the term, and we’ve never used it in our advertising.”

– The hotel is built on an artificial island 280 meters (920 feet) off Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland by a dedicated curved bridge.

– Construction of the island began in 1994, and at its peak, up to 2,000 construction workers were involved.

– The hotel’s exterior is designed to resemble the sails of a dhow.

– There is a helipad 210 meters (689 feet) above ground level. The helipad, designed by Irish architect Rebecca Gernon, is located on the building’s 28th floor and has served as a car racetrack, a boxing ring, a tennis tournament venue, and the launch pad for the highest kitesurfing jump in history.

– The design was by British consultancy Atkins, led by WKA architect Tom Wright.

– The interiors were designed by British-Chinese designer Khuan Chew.

– The construction was carried out by South African contractor Murray & Roberts (now Concor & Al Habtoor Engineering).

– The building’s impressive atrium is 180 meters (590 feet) high.

– The hotel offers six restaurants, with Al Muntaha and Al Mahara being its signature restaurants.
