  1. Hello Dacob, I am wearing Joy this week actually although I prefer Sublime ( still got a full bottle of it : could have been my signature fragrance actually). So sad they are both discontinued especially Sublime. Both the bottle are splendid. They are so special fragrances. Will be tremendously missed by many.

  2. Loved this deep dive into jasmine as a note and this classic perfume. It is fascinating the often fine line between opposites: beautiful/ugly, attractive/repulsive smells, etc.. My favorite perfumes, works of art, and styles tend to have this tension. Joy might veer too far in the poop category for me but appreciate it nonetheless.

  3. I absolutely love joy it smells tropical without the coconut like warm skin on a hot day so so so upset about it being discontinued can we have a joy by Jean patu funeral pleas x

  4. That was a gripping interpretation, Dacob! Thank you. I love Joy. I am fascinated by the difference between what you have said about men's interpretation and women's interpretation. As a woman, I am definitely reminded by Joy of the bodies of women who have meant the world to me–a best friend from my girlhood… my mother… and more. It is a woman who is self-contained. It can be scary, but it is everything. Yet Patou's Joy is being "censored," so to speak. A commentary on our times indeed.

  5. Ok, watching this and I’ve just ordered a bottle from TK Maxx as I saw it on sale! I really dislike tuberose BUT I feel like this is a must for my collection and I wanna go through hell when wearing it 😂😂 I shall report back. I’m picking it up on Friday 🌈 edt 30ml xxx

  6. I love it, some days I stard my morning with it, make me joy I love the name too. I have difrent presentations edp, edt, extrail from difrent years and for some reason in the five bottles that I have my nose always pick the rose powered rose more than any other flower is divine trie to get some old extrail, the truth is the older bottle I have is the best one.

  7. This was so lovely on my mother but sadly on me it smells like rotting flowers and plant material, and not in an intriguing sexual way. I want to wear it but I just can't, it doesn't work on me. But…..maybe if I layer as you say, maybe. Thank you

  8. thank you so much for honouring this legend. It is one of my favourite perfumes and recently it breaks my heart to see it at tk maxx and nobody buying it or paying any attention to it as they don't even know what theu are seeing. Where was the due outrage when Dior released that, ever so reproduceable, pink, bodyspray of the same name?

  9. I love your reviews, Dacob. So interesting and mind opening. I own the eau the parfum, Joy from Patou, and Tuberose gardenia from Estée Lauder. I sprayed each one on a wrist to compare. Joy is a real beast and tuberose gardenia has a comparable smell, but much softer. I like them both a lot. They are both very beautiful parfums. In Europe Joy is still available on a lot of webshops.

  10. Great review! I knew someone who wore it everyday in the 70’s. Never cared for it. Would love to get my nose on it today… though…

  11. Seeing these iconic fragrances cheapened and driven out of existence is like watching the burning of the Library of Alexandria and being powerless to stop it. This is awful 😭😥

  12. Me encanta la manera como describes estos aromas tan especiales 😍 yo No pude con Joy

  13. Joy vintage pure parfum is a sensational real perfume experience… The animalistic side of the roses is intensified here and the eau de toilette the vintage one that came later called eau de joy shared this aspect… It has to match your skin otherwise it may feel sour… Boudoir by Westwood has a reference on this classic by patou…a beautiful bottle the pure parfum And soo difficult to open…it's a must for perfume connoisseurs….

  14. Dacob. Gracias por compartir tu conocimiento y experiencia. Magistral Gracias mil!!!!!!

  15. I soooo agree with the indoles in this… I've got a 1962 extrait and it was still gift wrapped and in cellophane… (Lucky find)… It is so civety and skanky and sexy on me… I love it!!

  16. OMG Dacob thank you for this one❤ I watched the video last week and ordered Joy(50 ml Edp). Its still available online in The Netherlands, but its a 2018 batch though. I received it on Saturday and been wearing it for 3 days. LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! I dont smell poop (a part of my disturbed self wanted it to smell like poop for some reason😂) just beautiful white flowers and something like wet leaves or olive oil???? I dont find it strong or overwhelming either so i guess you were right about the hormone thing👍. I love this so much and will def try the combo with Obsession! Oh and this b!atch can take 4 sprays😎

  17. There is a lot of "something" that looks like "Joy by Jean Patou" still available from reputable perfume retailers, even though it has been "discontinued." I am NOT referring to the Dior version. Is the "Jean Patou Joy" version that's still sold the real thing? Honestly, there is too much of it to be truly remaining "old stock." Also, while not cheap, it's not expensive enough to be rare remaining old stock of something no longer being made. What's going on?

  18. I thought that I would like it but I don't. It is too strong and it doesn't smell like flowers but I don't know what it smells like. The one that is making it now smells so good and I could just eat it.

  19. Hi there. I am 74 yo and have been using Joy for as long as I can remember. I just bought both but worry if these are knock offs. How can I tell if the ones I have are authentic.

  20. Oh my God Dacob what a review ! you nailed it! I am affraid to buy it though because i think is the remaining of a legend and it will be disappointing. Joy by dior is a dupe of allure by chanel. In my humble opinion❤

  22. Yep just leave to LVMH to destroy anyones history and legacy for all the real great creators that unfortunately are gone.
Joy is one of the most beautiful and elegant Perfumes ever made. ( Now destroyed by LVMH ) 😡🤬

  23. Incredible research and review Dacob. To me, indoles are heartbreakingly beautiful… much like the aroma of expensive leather. I love Jean Patou JOY, especially in warm weather where the indoles smell very sexy and I feel an effortless confidence.
