Skyrim's companions problem!

Skyrim has companions like Serana and Cicero that you’ll remember but Skyrim’s companions were mostly bland. The problem with the companions was that they lacked depth, and we’d rather Elder Scrolls 6 take an approach like Fallout games where companions have quests, potentially a bonus like a perk and lots of dialogue.

  1. I always enjoyed dragging Sven with me everywhere I went. The dude was a cocky town bard, now I lock him in a Daedric tank, hand him a battleaxe (because Skyrim A.I just defaults) and aim him at whatever I want dead.

I think I actually got him to kill Alduin in one playthrough. I’m pretty sure I put the poor guy through hell. 😅😅😅 I’d guess he regrets getting me involved in his little love triangle now. 😅😅😅

  2. Do it like Starfield. Have a core group of flushed out companions, with a secondary group of companions with some backstory and then a group of generic companions with no backstory.

  3. I feel like the counter argument to this is skyrim companions can and will die or get lost much easier than fallout companions

  4. That sarana mod really had alot of new lines and dialog options and if you tack on the clean lovers lab mod then its as close you can get to a real companion.

  5. i pointed this out like yesterday to a friend like "this character is so detailed but then as your follower they got the same 10 cookie cutter lines as the other 50 people you can bring along, I liked them more when we weren't friends"

  6. I’m biased towards Khajiit because they’re my favorite but the “Khajiit Will Follow” mod adds 4 very well made followers who have a lot of traveling dialogue

  7. There should be a specific companion for each specialized task that you don't enjoy doing yourself. For example having a salesman as companion will take care of all bribing, smooth talk, get good price on deals. Having a postal worker as companion will get you shortcuts and maps, help you find specific persons etc. A hunter as companion tracks animals, provides you with fresh meat and long distance combat. New lines of dialoge should unlock as you level up so that the companion is not too predictable and annoying.

  8. Use fortify carry weight, health regen, max health, and skill of your choice on armor then give that to your follower

  9. The only reason i need companion was because i felt lonely. The feeling of liminal space are strong here especially dwermer ruin. Also most of my companion only do 10% of the work, they're slow easy to lost and leave behind while i clear everything. Maybe special case for dragon some of them can be bait and tanking while i hit it hard with safe

  10. Fallout 3 did a great job with companions. Some were boy scouts, some were neutral and some were potentially dark brotherhood recruits. We need more choices.

  11. That's pretty much what most companions are. Outside of the immortal companions. You have the meat shield companions meant to be fodder.

  12. when I started playing which was recently, I heard some people saying they love Lydia and I just don't get it haha maybe she doesn't like me but she is very bland so far, barelly says anything and seems to have no personality at all outside of serving us.

  13. I discovered the AI mod. Although the voices are not quality it is phenomenal what it has done. Skyrim with ai npcs and companions imo has become the ultimate role-playing experience

  14. Just saying it, most OGs know the story. Erik the Slayer. Most favorite companion, and most memorable. Dudes story was truly amazing, and sad. If you want to know about the back ground story and lore heart this post Ill reply.

  15. Tbh I just stopped using companions cause they always ended up getting themselves killed which was annoying

  16. Another thing it needs to take from fallout and other RPGs is meaningful companion quests that can change the character based on choices
